Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A mixing valve includes a mixing chamber, a first flow control valve having a first flow control opening, and a second flow control valve having a second flow control opening. The first and second flow control openings each have a diameter of approximately six millimeters and the mixing valve has a flow coefficient of approximately 2.5 when both flow control valves are in a mid-open position.

First claim

Opening claim text (preview).

What is claimed is: 1. A mixing valve comprising: a mixing chamber; a first flow control valve having a first flow control opening; and a second flow control valve having a second flow control opening; wherein the first and second flow control openings each have a diameter of approximately six millimeters and the mixing valve has a flow coefficient of approximately 2.5 when both flow control valves are in a mid-open position. 2. The mixing valve of claim 1 , wherein the mixing valve has a flow rate of approximately 25 liters per minute at 1 bar when both flow control valves are in the mid-open position. 3. The mixing valve of claim 1 , wherein the mixing valve has a housing with a length dimension, a width dimension, and a thickness dimension, and wherein the largest of these dimensions is no more than approximately 65 millimeters. 4. The mixing valve of claim 1 , wherein each flow control valve comprises a valve member assembly configured such that, when in use, fluid flowing through the valve exerts substantially no net force on the valve member assembly. 5. The mixing valve of claim 1 , wherein each flow control valve is substantially force balanced with respect to the force of fluid flowing through the flow control valve. 6. The mixing valve of claim 1 , wherein each flow control valve comprises a valve member assembly including two valve members spaced apart by a spool that is controlled by a linear actuator, wherein each valve member is configured to engage a separate valve seat in a closed position for the associated flow control valve. 7. The mixing valve of claim 6 , wherein each flow control valve comprises two openings into the mixing chamber and each valve member is associated with one of the two openings into the mixer chamber. 8. The mixing valve of claim 6 , wherein one opening of the first flow control valve is located between the two valve members of the first flow control valve when in the mid-open position. 9. The mixing valve of claim 8 , wherein the first of the two valve members of the first flow control valve is configured to be urged closed by fluid entering the first flow control opening and the second of the two valve members of the first flow control valve is configured to be urged open by the fluid entering the first valve flow control opening. 10. The mixing valve of claim 1 , wherein the mixing valve has a housing made of a metallic material. 11. The mixing valve of claim 1 , wherein the mixing valve has a size that allows it to be located within a spout of a faucet. 12. A mixing valve comprising: a mixing chamber; a first flow control valve having a first flow control opening; and a second flow control valve having a second flow control opening; wherein the first and second flow control openings each have a diameter of approximately six millimeters and the mixing valve has a flow rate of up to approximately 25 liters per minute at approximately 1 bar when both flow control valves are in a mid-open position. 13. The mixing valve of claim 12 , wherein the mixing valve has a flow coefficient of up to approximately 2.5 when both flow control valves are in the mid-open position. 14. The mixing valve of claim 12 , wherein the mixing valve has a housing with a length dimension, a width dimension, and a thickness dimension, and wherein the largest of these dimensions is no more than approximately 65 millimeters. 15. The mixing valve of claim 12 , wherein each flow control valve comprises a valve member assembly configured such that, when in use, fluid flowing through the valve exerts substantially no net force on the valve member assembly. 16. The mixing valve of claim 12 , wherein each flow control valve is substantially force balanced with respect to the force of fluid flowing through the flow control valves. 17. The mixing valve of claim 12 , wherein each of the flow control valve comprises a valve member assembly including two valve members spaced apart by a spool that is controlled by a linear actuator, wherein each of the two valve members are configured to engage a separate valve seat in a closed position for the associated flow control valve. 18. The mixing valve of claim 16 , wherein each flow control valve comprises two openings into the mixing chamber and the two valve members of the valve member assemblies are each associated with one of the two openings into the mixer chamber. 19. The mixing valve of claim 16 , wherein one opening of the flow control valve is located between the two valve members of the first flow control valve when in the mid-open position. 20. The mixing valve of claim 18 , wherein the first of the two valve members of the first flow control valve is configured to be urged closed by fluid entering the first flow control opening and the second of the two valve members of the first flow control valve is configured to be urged open by the fluid entering the first valve flow control opening. 21. The mixing valve of claim 12 , wherein the mixing valve has a housing made of a metallic material.
