A body cavity drainage device includes a drainage tube with a distal end configured for insertion into the body cavity of a patient, a fluid outlet at a proximal end of the drainage tube; and an activation apparatus coupled to the drainage tube between the proximal end of the drainage tube and the distal end of the drainage tube. The activation apparatus may be configured to alter a position of the distal end of the drainage tube in response to an input at a control device of the activation apparatus, and a first portion of the drainage tube extending from the activation apparatus toward the distal end may be at least substantially coaxial with a second portion of the drainage tube extending from the activation apparatus toward the proximal end. Methods relate to forming a body cavity drainage devices.

The body cavity drainage device of claim 1 , wherein the activation apparatus is offset from a central axis of the drainage tube. 3. The body cavity drainage device of claim 1 , wherein the at least two flexible members are configured to apply tension to the drainage tube to bend the drainage tube in response to the input at the control device of the activation apparatus. 4. The body cavity drainage device of claim 1 , wherein the at least two flexible members extend between the control device and the wall of the drainage tube along an arcuate path. 5. The body cavity drainage device of claim 1 , wherein the control device comprises a pinion gear and two racks configured to mesh with the pinion gear, and wherein each of the at least two flexible members are attached to a respective one of the two racks. 6. The body cavity drainage device of claim 1 , wherein the control device comprises a knob configured for manual manipulation by a user. 7. The body cavity drainage device of claim 1 , wherein each lateral opening of the plurality of lateral openings comprises a diameter less than an inside diameter of the drainage tube. 8. The body cavity drainage device of claim 1 , further comprising a ferrule disposed at the distal end. 9. The body cavity drainage device of claim 8 , wherein the ferrule has an inside diameter smaller than an inside diameter of the drainage tube. 10. The body cavity drainage device of claim 9 , further comprising at least two flexible members coupling the ferrule to the control device of the activation apparatus. 11.
