Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An approach and system for determining a level of effectiveness of a device action performed in response to the presence of a user is described. The system identifies a user associated with a presence signal transmitted by a transmitting object in use by the user during an event. The system also initiates a rendering of content associated with the user, an event host, one or more items associated with the event host, or a combination thereof at a sensing device that detects the presence signal. Still further, the system determines a response of the user to the content based on movement information, location information, transaction information, or a combination thereof associated with the transmitting object, the user, or a combination thereof during the event.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: detecting that a transmitting object is within a predetermined proximity of a display device, the detecting including: detecting that a sensing device has received a presence signal transmitted by the transmitting object; identifying, based on detecting that the transmitting object is within the predetermined proximity of the display device, a user associated with the transmitting object; identifying historic information associated with the user, the historic information including at least one of: historic movement information associated with the user, or historic location information associated with the user, or historic transaction information associated with the user; determining content to present to the user based on: the historic information, and the detection that the transmitting object is within the predetermined proximity of the display device; rendering, at the display device and based on detecting that the transmitting object is within the predetermined proximity of the display device, the identified content; determining a response of the user to the rendered content, based on at least one of: movement information associated with the transmitting object or the user after the content has been rendered, location information associated with the transmitting object or the user after the content has been rendered, or transaction information associated with the transmitting object or the user after the content has been rendered; and modifying the historic information, associated with the user, based on the response of the user to the rendered content, wherein determining future content is based on the modified historic information. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining at least one of: a duration of the content being rendered at the display device, or a duration of an interaction, by the user, with the content, wherein determining the response is further based on the at least one of: the duration of the content being rendered, or the duration of the interaction with the content. 3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining at least one of: whether the user has purchased one or more items associated with the content, or whether the user has selected, via an interface, at least one of the one or more items, wherein determining the response is further based on the at least one of whether the user has purchased or selected at least one of the one or more items. 4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining at least one of: a duration of movement of the transmitting object, or a path of movement of the transmitting object, wherein determining the response is further based on the at least one of the duration or path of the transmitting object. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining whether the transmitting object is located at a particular destination point, wherein determining the response is further based on whether the transmitting object is located at the particular destination point. 6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: capturing biometric information, wherein the user is identified based on the biometric information. 7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining a device identifier associated with the sensing device based on the receipt of the presence signal, wherein the content is determined further based on the device identifier. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the content includes at least one of: an advertisement, an instruction, media, or a transaction report, wherein the content is associated with one or more items, and wherein the sensing device includes at least one of: the display device, a point-of-sale system, a media device, or a whiteboard. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the content includes material about a product offered by an entity associated with the display device. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the display device is located in a store, wherein the historic transaction information includes an average purchase amount by the user per visit to the store, wherein the content is further determined based on the average purchase amount by the user per visit to the store. 11. An apparatus comprising: a memory for storing processor-executable instructions; and one or more processors configured to execute the processor-executable instructions, wherein executing the processor-executable instructions causes the one or more processors to: detect that a transmitting object is within a predetermined proximity of a display device, the detecting including: detecting that a sensing device has received a presence signal transmitted by the transmitting object; identify, based on detecting that the transmitting object is within the predetermined proximity of the display device, a user associated with the transmitting object; identify historic information associated with the user, the historic information including at least one of: historic movement information associated with the user, historic location information associated with the user, or historic transaction information associated with the user; determine content to present to the user based on the historic information, and further based on detecting that the transmitting object is within the predetermined proximity of the display device; render, at the display device and based on detecting that the transmitting object is within the predetermined proximity of the display device, the identified content; and determine a response of the user to the rendered content, based on at least one of: movement information associated with the transmitting object or the user after the content has been rendered, location information associated with the transmitting object or the user after the content has been rendered, or transaction information associated with the transmitting object or the user after the content has been rendered; and modify the historic information, associated with the user, based on the response of the user to the rendered content, wherein a determination of future content is based on the modified historic information. 12. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein executing the processor-executable instructions further causes the one or more processors to: determine at least one of: a duration of the content being rendered at the display device, or a duration of an interaction, by the user, with the content, wherein the processor-executable instructions, to determine the response, further cause the one or more processors to determine the response further based on the at least one of: the duration of the content being rendered, or the duration of the interaction with the content. 13. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein executing the processor-executable instructions further causes the one or more processors to: determine at least one of: whether the user has purchased one or more items associated with the content, or whether the user has selected, via an interface, at least one of the one or more items, wherein the processor-executable instructions, to determine the response, further cause the one or more processors to determine the response further based on the at least one of whether the user has purchased or selected at least one of the one or more items. 14. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein executing the processor-executable instructions further causes the one or more processors to: determine at least one of: a duration of movement of the transmitting object, or a path of moveme
