OLED panels and techniques for fabricating OLED panels are provided. Multiple cuts may be made in an OLED panel to define a desired shape, as well as the location and shape of external electrical contacts. The panel may be encapsulated before or after being cut to a desired shape, allowing for greater flexibility and efficiency during manufacture.

The invention claimed is: 1. An organic light emitting device (OLED) comprising: a cathode comprising: a central first region; and a second region adjacent to an exterior edge of the OLED, the second region being physically separated from the first region; an anode disposed in a stack with the central first region of the cathode and with the second region of the cathode, and electrically shorted to the second region; and an organic emissive stack disposed between the cathode and the anode. 2. The device of claim 1 , further comprising an encapsulation surrounding the OLED. 3. The device of claim 2 , wherein the encapsulation is a thin film encapsulation. 4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the minimum separation between the first region and the second region is at least 100 μm. 5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the anode comprises a bus grid. 6. The device of claim 5 , wherein each smallest region defined by the bus grid comprises a fuse. 7. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a substrate disposed under the cathode, the anode, and the organic emissive stack. 8. The device of claim 7 , wherein the substrate comprises a plastic. 9. The device of claim 7 , wherein the substrate comprises a polymer. 10. The device of claim 7 , wherein the device is flexible.
