Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A search result set is communicated to a first user as hypertext descriptions of data items constituting the result search set. A check box is displayed adjacent each hypertext description, utilizing which the first user may select a subset of the search result set. This subset is then communicated to a second user, again as hypertext descriptions of the subset. Check boxes are furthermore displayed to the second user so as to enable the second user to select a further and narrower subset of the search result set. Selected items of a result set of an Internet-based search may in this way conveniently be communicated between first and second users. Each of a number of interfaces provides the hypertext descriptions of the data items of the search result set.

What is claimed is: 1. A method including: identifying a first plurality of items based on a search, the identifying including utilizing at least one criterion to perform the search; generating a first transmission including the first plurality of items and a first plurality of selection functions, the first plurality of items respectively being associated with the first plurality of selection functions, the generating utilizing at least one processor; communicating the first transmission over a communications network; receiving a first plurality of selections over the communications network, the first plurality of selections including at least two selections, the at least two selections collectively identifying a first plurality of deleted items as deleted from the first plurality of items, the first plurality of items further including a second plurality of items that are not deleted from the first plurality of items, the receiving utilizing at least one processor; identifying an associated message to be communicated together with the second plurality of items; and communicating the associated message with the second plurality of items as a second transmission over the communications network. 2. The method of claim 1 , further including retrieving the at least one criterion from data storage and wherein the at least one criterion includes a string that is retrieved from a search record that is stored in a stored search table. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the string is associated with a user identifier in the search record, and the user identifier identifies a user that conducted the search. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the string is associated with a date in the search record, and that date identifies the date on which the search was last executed. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first transmission includes a first user interface and wherein the first user interface is a markup language document. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the markup language document includes a plurality of links respectively associated with a plurality of listings. 7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the first user interface includes a textual description of a first item included in the first plurality of items. 8. The method of claim 5 , wherein the first user interface includes a visual representation of the first item. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first plurality of selection functions includes a first selection function that is selected from a group of selection functions including a radio button and a checkbox. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the message includes an address of the second user. 11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the message is selected from a message group including a default message, an edited default message and a created message. 12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the address is selected from an address group including a default address, an edited default address and an input address. 13. A machine-readable medium storing a sequence of instructions that, when executed by a machine, cause the machine to perform actions comprising: identifying a first plurality of items based on a search, the identifying including utilizing at least one criterion to perform the search; generating a first transmission including the first plurality of items and a first plurality of selection functions, the first plurality of items respectively being associated with the first plurality of selection functions; communicating the first transmission over a communications network; receiving a first plurality of selections over the communications network, the first plurality of selections including at least two selections, the at least two selections collectively identifying a first plurality of deleted items as deleted from the first plurality of items, the first plurality of items further including a second plurality of items that are not deleted from the first plurality of items; identifying an associated message to be communicated together with the second plurality of items; and communicating the associated message with the second plurality of items as a second transmission over the communications network. 14. A system including: a search server, implemented by at least one processor, the search server is configured to identify a first plurality of items based on a search that utilizes at least one criterion to perform the search; a communications server, implemented by at least one processor, the communications server is configured to generate a first transmission including the first plurality of items and a first plurality of selection functions, the first plurality of items respectively being associated with the first plurality of selection functions, the communications server is further configured to communicate the first transmission over a communications network; and a processing server, implemented by at least one processor, the processing server is configured to receive a first plurality of selections over the communications network, the first plurality of selections including at least two selections, the at least two selections collectively identify a first plurality of deleted items as deleted from the first plurality of items, the first plurality of items further including a second plurality of items that are not deleted from the first plurality of items, the processing server is further configured to identify an associated message to be communicated together with the second plurality of items, the communications server is further configured to communicating the associated message with the second plurality of items as a second transmission over the communications network. 15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the at least one criterion includes a string that is retrieved from a search record that is stored in a stored search table. 16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the string is associated a user identifier in the search record, and the user identifier identifies a user that conducted the search. 17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the string is associated with a date in the search record, and that date identifies the date on which the search was last executed. 18. The system of claim 14 , wherein the first transmission includes a first user interface and wherein the first user interface is a markup language document. 19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the markup language document includes a first plurality of links respectively associated with a first plurality of listings respectively associated with the first plurality of items. 20. The system of claim 18 , wherein the first user interface includes a textual description of a first item included in the first plurality of items.
