Official abstract text for this publication.
A mobile device and a touch-based operation method allow a user to easily and conveniently use a desired communication-related function through a touch-sensitive interface. The mobile device displays a scrollable communication-related list that includes but is not limited to a call log list, a message list, a phonebook list, and an email list. When a specific item is selected in response to a first touch event, the mobile device determines whether or not a second touch event occurs on the selected item in a non-scrollable direction. Then the mobile device executes a particular function predefined in the selected item in response to the second touch event occurring in the non-scrollable direction.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for controlling an electronic device, the method comprising: displaying on a touch screen a list comprising a plurality of items arranged in a plurality of respective rows; detecting a first touch input at a first touchdown location on an item of the plurality of items; in response to detecting movement of the first touch input from the first touchdown location in a rightward direction, moving display of the item in the rightward direction corresponding to the movement of the touch input, and displaying a first icon at a left side of the item, the first icon visually indicating a first executable function assigned to the movement of the first touch input in the rightward direction on the item; executing the first executable function in response to detecting at least the movement of the first touch input in the rightward direction to a point beyond a first critical point which changes depending on the first touchdown location; detecting a second touch input at a second touchdown location on the item; in response to detecting movement of the second touch input from the second touchdown location in a leftward direction, correspondingly moving display of the item in the leftward direction, and displaying a second icon at a right side of the item, the second icon representing a second executable function assigned to the movement of the second touch input in the leftward direction on the item; and executing the second executable function in response to at least detecting the movement of the second touch input in the leftward direction to a point beyond a second critical point which changes depending on the second touchdown location. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing of the first executable function includes one of: executing the first executable function as soon as the detected movement of the first touch input in the rightward direction beyond the first critical point occurs; and executing the first executable function if a touch release event occurs after the detected movement of the first touch input in the rightward direction beyond the first critical point. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing of the second executable function includes one of: executing the second executable function as soon as the detected movement of the second touch input in the leftward direction beyond the second critical point occurs; and executing the second executable function if a touch release event occurs after the detected movement of the second touch input in the leftward direction is beyond the second critical point. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein a visual feedback is displayed in response to a movement of the first touch input, the method further comprising: removing the visual feedback in at least one of: (1) wherein a rightward direction drag is released before passing through a point corresponding to the first critical point in the rightward direction, (2) wherein the rightward direction drag deviates from the rightward direction before passing through the first critical point, and (3) wherein the rightward direction drag deviates from the rightward direction after passing through the first critical point. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein displaying the first icon comprises: displaying the item with a visual feedback in response to a rightward direction drag, by modifying display of the item while being dragged. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein displaying the second icon comprises: displaying the item with a visual feedback in response to a leftward direction drag, by modifying display of the item while being dragged. 7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising: removing the visual feedback in at least one of: (1) wherein a leftward direction drag is released prior to reaching the second critical point, (2) wherein the leftward direction drag deviates from the leftward direction before passing through the second critical point, and (3) wherein the leftward direction drag deviates from the leftward direction after passing through the second critical point. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein displaying the first icon or second icon comprises: in response to the first or second touch input being detected on the item, displaying the item with a visual feedback while the first or second touch input is maintained, so that the item being touched is distinguished by the visual feedback from other items of the items. 9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising at least one of: displaying a graphic effect for a second item of the plurality of items if the second item is unavailable for the execution of a function including at least one of a call dialing, a message writing, an email writing and a text writing for messenger; or displaying an item deleting function for only the second item if the second item is unavailable for the execution of the function including at least one of a call dialing, a message writing, an email writing and a text writing for messenger. 10. An electronic device comprising: a touch panel that detects touch inputs; a display unit; a processor executing computer-executable instructions to: control the display unit to display a list comprising a plurality of items arranged in one or more respective rows; detect via the touch panel a first touch input at a first touchdown location on an item of the plurality of items; in response to detecting movement of the first touch input from the first touchdown location in a rightward direction, move a display of the item in the rightward direction corresponding to the movement of the first touch input, and display via the display unit a first icon at a left side of the item, the first icon representing a first executable function assigned to the movement of the first touch input in the rightward direction on the item; execute the first executable function in response to detecting at least the movement of the first touch input in the rightward direction to a point beyond a first critical point which changes depending on the first touchdown location; detect a second touch input via the touch panel at a second touchdown location on the item; in response to detecting movement of the second touch input from the second touchdown location in a leftward direction, correspondingly move display of the item in the leftward direction, and display a second icon at a right side of the item, the second icon representing a second executable function assigned to the movement of the second touch input in the leftward direction on the item; and execute the second executable function in response to at least detecting the movement of the second touch input in the leftward direction to a point beyond a second critical point which changes depending on the second touchdown location. 11. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the processor controls the display unit to display the item with a visual feedback as the item is moved in the rightward direction or the leftward direction, and controls modifying a display of a specific item in accordance with the rightward or leftward movement, respectively. 12. The electronic device of claim 11 , wherein the processor controls removal of the visual feedback in at least one of: (1) wherein a rightward direction drag or a leftward direction drag is released prior to passing through a the first critical point or the second critical point on the display unit in the rightward direction or the leftward direction, respectively (2) wherein the rightward direction drag or the leftward direction drag deviates from the rightward direction or leftward direction before passing through the first or second critical points, respectively,
