Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Systems and methods for communicating in a wireless communication system are described. Various processes for reducing the initial link set up time are described. In aspect a method in a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes transmitting two or more network domain identifiers from an access point, each of the network domain identifiers being associated with a respective network service. The method further includes receiving an access request message for establishing the network service associated with at least one of the transmitted network domain identifiers.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of reducing signaling during link setup in a wireless communication system, the method comprising: receiving, by an access point, one or more configuration messages indicating that the access point is assigned to a first and second network domain, each of the first and second network domains having first and second network domain identifiers, each network domain identifying a logical grouping of the access point with at least one other access point, each of the grouped access points in the network domain configured to perform a common network service; transmitting, over a wireless network, the first and second network domain identifiers in a message from the access point, wherein the message indicates whether new associations are being accepted for each of the respective common network services; receiving from a station, at the access point from the wireless network, an access request message for establishing the network service associated with at least one of the transmitted network domain identifiers, wherein the access request message comprises a third network domain identifier associated with a plurality of network services, the third network domain identifier being different than the first and second network domain identifiers and comprising a sequence of bits based on the first network domain identifier or the second network domain identifier; determining, at the access point, whether the third network domain identifier is associated with the access point; and associating with the station in response to the determining. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the network domain identifiers is through transmission of a beacon signal from the access point. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the network domain identifiers is through transmission of a probe response being made in response to a probe request from a wireless access terminal. 4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising assigning one or more network domain identifiers to the access point. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the access request message includes at least one of the transmitted network domain identifiers, and the method further comprises establishing the network service for a wireless communication device if the received one of the network domain identifiers is included in the assigned network domain identifiers. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the access request message comprises a probe request comprising the network domain identifier in a network identifier information element. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the network domain identifiers is through transmission of a network identifier information element. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one network domain identifier comprises a value identifying one of a network operator, a telecommunication service provider, an application, a class for an application, or a universal resource location. 9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the class for an application comprises at least one of chat, text, video, and multimedia. 10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the universal resource location comprises a website address. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first and second network domain identifiers have a first number of bits, and the bit length of the sequence of bits is less than the first number of bits. 12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of receiving the access request message comprises receiving the access request message from a first device, the method further comprising broadcasting, from the access point, to a plurality of devices comprising the first device, an access response message establishing a link with the first device and comprising the first identifier, in response to receiving the access request message. 13. A device configured to reduce signaling during link setup in a wireless communication system, the device comprising: a receiver configured to receive one or more configuration messages indicating that an access point is assigned to a first and second network domain, each of the first and second network domains having first and second network domain identifiers, each network domain identifying a logical grouping of the access point with at least one other access point, each of the grouped access points in the network domain configured to perform a common network service; a transmitter configured to transmit over a wireless network, the first and second network domain identifiers in a message from the access point, wherein the message indicates whether new associations are being accepted for each of the respective common network services; and wherein the receiver is further configured to receive from a station, from the wireless network, an access request message for establishing the network service associated with at least one of the transmitted network domain identifiers, wherein the access request message comprises a third network domain identifier associated with a plurality of network services, the third network domain identifier being different than the first and second network domain identifiers and comprising a sequence of bits based on the first network domain identifier or the second network domain identifier; a hardware processor, configured to: determine whether the third network domain identifier is associated with the access point; and associate with the station in response to the determining. 14. The device of claim 13 , wherein transmitting the network domain identifiers is through transmission of a beacon signal from the access point. 15. The device of claim 13 , wherein transmitting the network domain identifiers is through transmission of a probe response being made in response to a probe request from a wireless access terminal. 16. The device of claim 13 , wherein the device comprises an access point. 17. The device of claim 13 , further comprising a processor configured to assign one or more network domain identifiers to the device. 18. The device of claim 17 , wherein the access request message includes at least one of the transmitted network domain identifiers, and wherein the transmitter is further configured to transmit a message to establish the network service for a wireless communication device if the received one of the network domain identifiers is included in the assigned network domain identifiers. 19. The device of claim 18 , wherein the access request message comprises a probe request comprising the network domain identifier in a network identifier information element. 20. The device of claim 13 , wherein transmitting the network domain identifiers is through transmission of network identifier information element. 21. The device of claim 13 , wherein at least one network domain identifier comprises a value identifying one of a network operator, a telecommunication service provider, an application, a class for an application, or a universal resource location. 22. The device of claim 21 , wherein the class for an application comprises at least one of chat, text, video, and multimedia. 23. The device of claim 21 , wherein the universal resource location comprises a website address. 24. The device of claim 13 , wherein the first and second network domain identifiers have a first number of bits, and the bit length of the sequence of bits is less than the first number of bits. 25. The device of claim 13 , wherein the receiver is configured to receive the ac
