An improved jack assembly for use with a trailer tongue of a towed vehicle. The jack assembly including telescoping height adjustment of the assembly, a pivot assembly for pivoting between a vertical and horizontal stowed position, and a clip for maintaining a handle assembly in a stowed position when not in use. The jack assembly also includes the use of bushings for the telescoping tubes to enhance the sliding movement between the tubes and aid in maintaining the axial alignment of the tubes thereby extending the life of the jack assembly. The pivot assembly further includes an attachment bracket that may be rotated to accommodate at least two different sizes of trailer tongues.

Having thus described the invention, we claim: 1. A jack assembly comprising: a member; a gear mechanism; a handle operatively engaged with the gear mechanism, the handle rotatable relative to the member; and a handle assembly clip attached with the handle, wherein the handle assembly clip selectively engages the member, whereby the handle assembly clip generally prevents the handle from rotating relative to the member while the handle remains in an operative position; wherein the handle assembly clip comprises a lead-in member that upon application of a rotational force to the handle releases the handle assembly clip from engagement with the member. 2. The jack assembly of claim 1 , wherein the member is a generally tubular member. 3. The jack assembly of claim 1 , wherein the handle assembly clip is rotatably positionable to and from first and second positions. 4. The jack assembly of claim 3 , wherein the handle assembly clip selectively engages the member in the first position and is disengaged from the member in the second position. 5. A jack assembly comprising: a first member, the first member having an end portion, the end portion including at least one boss positioned within the first member; a second member telescopingly engaged with the first member; a mounting plate removably attached with the end portion of the first member, the mounting plate including at least one aperture generally aligned with the at least one boss; a caster removably attachable to the mounting plate and pivotal with respect to the mounting plate; and at least one fastener removably engaged with the at least one aperture of the mounting plate and the at least one boss. 6. The jack assembly of claim 5 , wherein the first member is an outer tube and the second member is an inner tube. 7. The jack assembly of claim 5 , wherein the first member is an inner tube and the second member is an outer tube. 8. The jack assembly of claim 5 , wherein the at least one fastener is positioned within the first member when removably engaged with the at least one aperture of the mounting plate and the at least one boss. 9. The jack assembly of claim 8 , wherein the at least one boss includes a plurality of bosses, the at least one aperture includes a plurality of apertures, and the at least one fastener includes a plurality of fasteners whereby the plurality of fasteners are positioned within the first member when removably engaged with the plurality of apertures and the plurality of bosses. 10. The jack assembly of claim 5 , wherein the mounting plate includes a second aperture. 11. The jack assembly of claim 10 , further comprising a second fastener, at least a portion of the second fastener is inserted through the second aperture and selectively engaged with the caster. 12. The jack assembly of claim 5 , wherein the first member includes a centerline and the caster includes at least one caster wheel, whereby the at least one caster wheel is offset from the centerline. 13. The jack assembly of claim 12 , wherein the caster includes a brake lever, the brake lever is selectively engageable with the at least one wheel to deter rotation of the at least one wheel. 14. A jack assembly comprising: a first member having an end portion, the end portion including at least one boss positioned within the first member; a second member telescopingly engaged with the first member; a yoke retainer removably attached with the end portion of the first member; at least one first fastener removably engaged with the yoke retainer and the at least one boss, the at least one first fastener positioned within the first member when removably engaged with the yoke retainer and at least one boss; a second fastener engaged with the yoke retainer; and a yoke selectively attached with the second fastener selectively attaching the yoke with the yoke retainer. 15. The jack assembly of claim 14 , wherein the first member is an outer tube and the second member is an inner tube. 16. The jack assembly of claim 14 , wherein the first member is an inner tube and the second member is an outer tube. 17. The jack assembly of claim 16 , further comprising a bearing surface positioned between the yoke and the yoke retainer. 18. The jack assembly of claim 17 , wherein the bearing surface is integrated with either of the yoke and yoke retainer. 19. The jack assembly of claim 16 , wherein the yoke is selectively attached with the first member free of welding. 20. The jack assembly of claim 14 , wherein the at least one boss includes a plurality of bosses formed in the end portion. 21. The jack assembly of claim 20 , wherein the at least first one fastener includes a plurality of first fasteners removably engaged with the plurality of bosses removably attaching the yolk retainer with the end portion of the first member. 22. The jack assembly of claim 21 , wherein the plurality of fasteners are positioned within the first member and hidden from view when removably engaged with the plurality of bosses.
