Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Systems and methods for detecting chemical substance levels in surrounding environments using an integrated system are provided. A vehicle is equipped with a system comprising a detector component, a vehicle telematics component, and mobile gateway component. The detector component monitors a level of one or more chemical substances and determines that a threshold level of the one or more chemical substances has been detected. The vehicle telematics component generates an alert signaling detection of the threshold level of the one or more chemical substances. The alert may be communicated to one or more recipients including a command center. The alert may include, among other things, the level of the one or more chemical substances and the location of the vehicle. Communication of the alert and additional communications with the one or more recipients is facilitated by a mobile gateway component that provides access to a wireless communications network.

The invention claimed is: 1. A system for providing wireless communications network access to a vehicle capable of detecting levels of chemical substances, the system comprising: one or more access components configured to provide wireless communications network access to at least one integrated chemical substance detection and vehicle telematics system, wherein the one or more access components are configured to receive an alert signaling detection of a threshold level of a chemical substance, wherein the alert is automatically generated based on a determination that the threshold level of the chemical substance has been detected; a command center server configured to provide network services to the at least one integrated chemical substance detection and vehicle telematics system; and a mobile gateway configured to provide remote access to the at least one integrated chemical substance detection and vehicle telematics system and communicate the alert to one or more recipients. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more access components are configured to receive one or more of: one or more levels of the one or more chemical substances; and a time associated with the one or more alerts. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more access components are configured to receive one or more of: a location associated with the at least one integrated chemical substance detection and vehicle telematics system; vehicle diagnostics associated with the at least one integrated chemical substance detection and vehicle telematics system; and an identification of a driver associated with the at least one integrated chemical substance detection and vehicle telematics system. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the network services comprise one or more of: vehicle telematics features; GPS mapping features; fleet management features; and mobile networking features. 5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more access components comprise one or more of: a base transceiver station; a router; a mobile hotspot; and a base transceiver tower. 6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the command center server is configured to generate one or more reports associated with the one or more alerts. 7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the mobile gateway is configured to communicate at least one of the one or more alerts and the one or more reports to one or more end users. 8. A system for providing wireless communications network access to and facilitating communication with a vehicle capable of detecting levels of chemical substances, the system comprising: one or more access components configured to: provide wireless communications network access to at least one integrated chemical substance detection and vehicle telematics system; and receive one or more automatically generated alerts signaling detection of a threshold level of one or more chemical substances by the integrated chemical substance detection and vehicle telematics system; a command center server configured to: provide network services to the at least one integrated chemical substance detection and vehicle telematics system; and generate one or more reports associated with the one or more alerts; and a mobile gateway configured to: provide remote access to the at least one integrated chemical substance detection and vehicle telematics system; and communicate at least one of the one or more alerts and the one or more reports to one or more end users. 9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more alerts are received from a wireless signal booster coupled to an antenna of the at least one integrated chemical substance detection and vehicle telematics system. 10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more access components are configured to receive one or more of: one or more levels of the one or more chemical substances; and a time associated with the one or more alerts. 11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the network services comprise one or more of: vehicle telematics features; GPS mapping features; fleet management features; and mobile networking features. 12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more chemical substances is hydrogen sulfide.
