A system and method for managing data transfer operations includes at least one data server including data stored in a plurality of data fields, at least one transaction server operatively coupled to the at least one data server and configured to provide at least one customizable business rule and a customer relationship application, an information server operatively coupled to the at least one transaction server, and at least one workstation operatively coupled to the information server. The least one workstation includes local memory accessible to the customer relationship application and configured to provide web communication and presentation services to a user of the at least one workstation that are deployed on the information server. The at least one customizable business rule specifies a mapping between the plurality of data fields and the local memory, the mapping having been provided by the user interacting with the web communication and presentation services.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: accessing, by a computing device at a client site, a network-based customer relationship application; loading, by the computing device, metadata from the customer relationship application; associating a database local to the computing device with the customer relationship application; generating, by the computing device and using the metadata from the customer relationship application, a map for mapping data between the local database and a database external to the computing device; creating a transfer application using the mapping, the transfer application being installed in the customer relationship application as a service; displaying, by the computing device, a screen for allowing manipulation of the mapping, the manipulation including customization of field names at the client site; and executing, by the computing device, the transfer application, the executing including mapping first fields for data at the external database to second fields for data at the local database, and the mapping translating first field names of the first fields to customized second field names of the second field. 2. The method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising specifying an interval of time that elapses between automatic execution of the transfer application. 3. The method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising: displaying, by the computing device, a screen for receiving a designation of a type of application to be created for the transfer application, wherein the type of application is at least one of a Structured Query Language import application, a Structured Query Language export application, an Open Database Connectivity import application, an Open Database Connectivity export application, a file import application, a file export application, an electronic mail import application, and an electronic mail export application. 4. The method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising receiving a specification of a name for the transfer application. 5. The method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising receiving login information. 6. The method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising gathering logging information. 7. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the manipulation of the mapping further includes altering the mapping of the first fields for data at the external database to the second fields for data at the local database. 8. The method as recited in claim 7 , wherein the altering includes specifying the fields to be transferred from the external database. 9. The method as recited in claim 7 , wherein the altering includes providing the names of the fields from the external database which correspond to selected fields of the local database. 10. The method as recited in claim 7 , wherein the altering includes providing the names of the fields from the local database which correspond to selected fields of the external database. 11. The method as recited in claim 7 , wherein the altering includes specifying the fields to be transferred from the local database. 12. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the mapping of the first fields for data at the external database to second fields for data at the local database includes custom fields added at the client site to the local database. 13. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein creating the transfer application further includes using at least one scripting function selected from a group consisting of a VBScript function and a JavaScript function. 14. A program storage device, readable by a programmable control device, comprising instructions stored on the program storage device for causing the programmable control device to perform a method comprising: accessing, by a computing device at a client site, a network-based customer relationship application; loading, by the computing device, metadata from the customer relationship application; associating a database local to the computing device with the customer relationship application; generating, by the computing device and using the metadata from the customer relationship application, a map for mapping data between the local database and a database external to the computing device; creating a transfer application using the mapping, the transfer application being installed in the customer relationship application as a service; displaying, by the computing device, a screen for allowing manipulation of the mapping, the manipulation including customization of field names at the client site; and executing, by the computing device, the transfer application, the executing including mapping first fields for data at the external database to second fields for data at the local database, and the mapping translating first field names of the first fields to customized second field names of the second field. 15. The program storage device as recited in claim 14 , wherein creating the transfer application further includes using at least one scripting function selected from a group consisting of a VBScript function and a JavaScript function. 16. A client site system comprising: a processing unit; a display device coupled to the processing unit; and a memory coupled to the processing unit, the memory storing program instructions executable by the processing unit to: access a network-based customer relationship application; load metadata from the customer relationship application; associate a database local to the client site system with the customer relationship application; generate, using the metadata from the customer relationship application, a map for mapping data between the local database and a database external to the client site system; create a transfer application using the mapping, the transfer application being installed in the customer relationship application as a service; display, on the display device, a screen for allowing manipulation of the mapping, the manipulation including customization of field names at the client site system; and execute the transfer application, the execution including mapping first fields for data at the external database to second fields for data at the local database, and the mapping translating first field names of the first fields to customized second field names of the second field. 17. The system as recited in claim 16 , wherein creating the transfer application further includes using at least one scripting function selected from a group consisting of a VBScript function and a JavaScript function. 18. A method comprising: receiving, by a computing device at a client site, a designation of an origin of data for a transfer application, the origin of the data being a database external to the computing device; receiving, by the computing device at the client site, a designation of a destination for data for the transfer application, the destination of the data being a database local to the computing device, and the destination being associated with a customer relationship application that is network-based and accessed from the client site; loading metadata from the customer relationship application; generating, by the computing device and using the metadata from the customer relationship application, a map for mapping of fields between the origin of the data and the destination of the data for the transfer application, wherein the map for the mapping of the fields includes custom fields added by the computing device at the client site, the custom fields provided to the customer relationship application for execution at the client site; creat
