A replacement tailgate for the purpose of elongating the pick up truck may be installed on a truck bed wherein the replacement tailgate can be unfolded in order to elongate a length of the truck bed. The replacement tailgate may have front and rear shells that are used to support objects placed in the truck bed as well as act as the new tailgate when the truck bed length is elongated. Various panels may be unfolded in order to trap objects within the truck bed when the replacement tailgate is unfolded in order to elongate the truck bed length.

What is claimed is: 1. A tailgate extender for a bed of a truck, the tailgate extender comprising: one or more floor extension panels, disposed adjacent to a floor of the bed, that extend a floor of the bed as a tailgate of the truck is moved backwards; one or more driver-side panels that extend a driver-side wall of the bed as the tailgate is moved backwards; one or more passenger-side panels that extend a passenger-side wall of the bed as the tailgate is moved backwards; one or more support structures attached to the bed that extend and retract as the bed is extended and retracted by the one or more floor extension panels, the one or more driver-side panels, and the one or more passenger-side panels; a motor that extends and retracts the one or more support structures as the bed is extended and retracted by the one or more floor extension panels, the one or more driver-side panels, and the one or more passenger-side panels; and a handle disposed on the tailgate that a user can engage to control the motor to extend and retract the one or more support structures. 2. The tailgate extender of claim 1 , further comprising a second handle disposed on the tailgate that a user can engage to pivot the tailgate open and closed. 3. The tailgate extender of claim 1 , wherein the one or more floor extension panels are disposed below the floor of the bed. 4. A tailgate extender for a bed of a truck, the tailgate extender comprising: one or more floor extension panels, disposed adjacent to a floor of the bed, that extend a floor of the bed as a tailgate of the truck is moved backwards; one or more driver-side panels that extend a driver-side wall of the bed as the tailgate is moved backwards; one or more passenger-side panels that extend a passenger-side wall of the bed as the tailgate is moved backwards; and primary taillights disposed on the tailgate and electrically connected to an electrical system of the truck, wherein the primary taillights are aesthetically blended with side taillights on the driver-side wall and the passenger-side wall so as to appear integral with the side taillights when the bed is in a fully retracted position. 5. The tailgate extender of claim 4 , further comprising: a driver-side housing that houses the one or more driver-side panels; and a passenger-side housing that houses the one or more passenger-side panels. 6. The tailgate extender of claim 5 , wherein the one or more driver-side panels includes a plurality of driver-side panels that telescope from the driver-side housing as the one or more driver-side panels extend the driver-side wall of the bed, and the one or more passenger-side panels includes a plurality of passenger-side panels that telescope from the passenger-side housing as the one or more passenger-side panels extend the passenger-side wall of the bed. 7. The tailgate extender of claim 6 , wherein the one or more floor extension panels are secured to the one or more driver-side panels and to the one or more passenger-side panels so that the one or more driver-side panels and the one or more passenger-side panels telescope from the driver-side housing and the passenger-side housing in, unison with the extension of the one or more floor extension panels. 8. The tailgate extender of claim 4 , wherein the one or more floor extension panels includes a plurality of floor extension panels that telescope as the one or more floor extension panels extend the floor of the bed. 9. The tailgate extender of claim 4 , wherein the one or more floor extension panels, the one or more driver-side panels, and the one or more passenger-side panels extend the bed of the truck by a maximum of one to six feet. 10. The tailgate extender of claim 9 , wherein the one or more floor extension panels, the one or more driver-side panels, and the one or more passenger-side panels extend the bed by a maximum of two to four feet. 11. The tailgate extender of claim 4 , further comprising a lock that, when locked, prevents extension and retraction of the bed by the one or more floor extension panels, the one or more driver-side panels, and the one or more passenger-side panels. 12. The tailgate extender of claim 11 , wherein the lock may be locked at an intermediate position between a fully extended and a fully retracted position of the one or more floor extension panels, the one or more driver-side panels, and the one or more passenger-side panels. 13. The tailgate extender of claim 11 , further comprising a spring-biased handle disposed on the tailgate that a user can engage to unlock the lock and release to lock the lock. 14. The tailgate extender of claim 13 , further comprising a second handle disposed on the tailgate that a user can engage to pivot the tailgate open and closed. 15. The tailgate extender of claim 4 , further comprising one or more support structures attached to the bed that extend and retract as the bed is extended and retracted by the one or more floor extension panels, the one or more driver-side panels, and the one or more passenger-side panels. 16. The tailgate extender of claim 15 , further comprising a motor that extends and retracts the one or more support structures as the bed is extended and retracted by the one or more floor extension panels, the one or more driver-side panels, and the one or more passenger-side panels. 17. The tailgate extender of claim 16 , further comprising: a rack disposed on the one or more support structures; a pinion paired to the rack; and a shaft attached to the pinion, wherein the motor rotates the pinion via the shaft to extend and retract the one or more support structures. 18. The tailgate extender of claim 16 , further comprising a control panel on or adjacent to the bed of the truck, the control panel operative to control the motor to extend and retract the one or more support structures. 19. The tailgate extender of claim 4 , wherein the one or more floor extension panels are disposed below the floor of the bed.
