An improved tissue specimen trapping device for collecting and separating solid particles and materials from body fluids has a porous separator that rests on a shelf-like annular ledge between upper and lower portions of the tissue collection container. At least one tissue collection basket removably disposed in the tissue collection container above the separator shelf has a porous bottom surface to filter tissue specimens from body fluids and has downward projections to the tissue collection basket above the separator shelf to create a space therebetween.

I claim: 1. A tissue collection container comprising: a housing having side walls and a base, wherein the housing defines an internal volume; a removable cover adapted to fit onto the side walls of the housing and form a top of the housing; a first port for receiving a first tube, wherein the first port is positioned in said cover; an indentation positioned on the side wall, wherein said indentation forms a ledge extending into the internal volume and defines a separation between an upper volume and a lower volume; a second port for receiving a second tube, wherein said second port is positioned in said cover and is in fluid communication with the upper volume; a separator shelf comprising a planar surface adapted to fit horizontally within said internal volume and be positioned atop the indentation, wherein the planar surface further comprises a first plurality of pores; a conduit connected to the first port and extending downward into the lower volume through said separator shelf; and a plurality of baskets, wherein each of said plurality of baskets is configured to be positioned on top of the separator shelf and wherein a base of each of said plurality of baskets comprises a second plurality of pores. 2. The tissue collection container of claim 1 wherein the first plurality of pores have a first plurality of pore diameters and the second plurality of pores have a second plurality of pore diameters and wherein the first plurality of pore diameters is different from the second plurality of pore diameters. 3. The tissue collection container of claim 2 wherein the second plurality of pore diameters is larger than the first plurality of pore diameters. 4. The tissue collection container of claim 1 wherein each of the plurality of baskets has a same dimension and volume. 5. The tissue collection container of claim 1 wherein each of the plurality of baskets has two flat side walls disposed in an angular relationship relative to each other and an outside arcuate wall extending between outer edges of the two flat side walls. 6. The tissue collection container of claim 5 wherein each of the plurality of baskets further comprises an inside arcuate wall extending between inner edges of the two flat side walls. 7. The tissue collection container of claim 6 wherein each inside arcuate wall is adapted to abut said conduit. 8. The tissue collection container of claim 7 wherein each inside arcuate wall comprises a projection and a surface of said conduit comprises a corresponding recess and wherein said projection is adapted to fit within said recess, thereby retaining each of said plurality of baskets in a specific alignment around said conduit. 9. The tissue collection container of claim 5 wherein the side wall of the housing comprises a plurality of projections and wherein the outside arcuate walls of the plurality of baskets each comprise a recess configured to cooperate with at one of the plurality of projections, thereby retaining each of said plurality of baskets in a specific alignment within said container. 10. The tissue collection container of claim 9 wherein each of the plurality of projections has a shape of at least one of an inverted parabola, an inverted V and a chevron and each recess comprises a complimentary shape such that, when one of the plurality of baskets is positioned over one of said plurality of projections, a widest portion of the complimentary shape of the recess first contacts the narrowest portion of one of the plurality of projections. 11. The tissue collection container of claim 10 wherein the plurality of baskets are evenly distributed around the circumference of said conduit and along a surface of the planar surface of the separator shelf. 12. The tissue collection container of claim 11 wherein the plurality of baskets comprises a first basket, a second basket, a third basket, and a fourth basket. 13. The tissue collection container of claim 1 wherein the removable cover comprises a plurality of projections extending downward into the internal volume and wherein, when the removable cover is turned, at least one of the plurality of projections is adapted to contact at least one side of one of the plurality of baskets. 14. A tissue collection container comprising: a cylindrical housing having side walls and a base, said cylindrical housing defining an internal volume, wherein the cylindrical housing is divided into an upper portion, with a first diameter, and a lower portion, with a second diameter, and wherein the first diameter is larger than the second diameter; a removable cover adapted to fit onto the side walls of the cylindrical housing and form a top of the cylindrical housing; a first port for receiving a first tube, wherein the first port is positioned in said cover; a second port for receiving a second tube, wherein said second port is positioned in said cover and is in fluid communication with the upper portion; a separator shelf comprising a planar surface adapted to fit horizontally within said internal volume and be positioned between the upper portion and lower portion, wherein the planar surface further comprises a first plurality of pores; a conduit connected to the first port and extending downward into the lower volume through said separator shelf; and a plurality of baskets, wherein each of said plurality of baskets is configured to be positioned on top of the separator shelf and wherein a base of each of said plurality of baskets comprises a second plurality of pores. 15. The tissue collection container of claim 14 wherein the first plurality of pores have a first plurality of pore diameters and the second plurality of pores have a second plurality of pore diameters and wherein the first plurality of pore diameters is smaller than the second plurality of pore diameters. 16. The tissue collection container of claim 14 wherein each of the plurality of baskets has two flat side walls disposed in an angular relationship relative to each other and an inside arcuate wall extending between inner edges of the two flat side walls. 17. The tissue collection container of claim 16 wherein each inside arcuate wall is adapted to abut said conduit and wherein each inside arcuate wall comprises a projection and a surface of said conduit comprises a corresponding recess and wherein said projection is adapted to fit within said recess, thereby retaining each of said plurality of baskets in a specific alignment around said conduit. 18. The tissue collection container of claim 14 wherein each of said plurality of baskets comprises an outside arcuate wall extending between outer edges of the two flat side walls, wherein the side wall of the housing comprises a plurality of projections, and wherein each of the outside arcuate walls comprise a recess configured to cooperate with at one of the plurality of projections, thereby retaining each of said plurality of baskets in a specific alignment within said container. 19. The tissue collection container of claim 18 wherein the plurality of baskets are retained such that the plurality of baskets are evenly distributed around the circumference of said conduit and along a surface of the planar surface of the separator shelf.
