Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Techniques for provisioning a smart navigation service are presented. The provisioning can be performed by a name owner, by the smart navigation service itself, or by a third-party keyword service. The provisioned information can include an entity name, a keyword, and possibly other data correlated to at least one network locator. The navigation service electronically stores in navigation service persistent memory a rule correlating the entity name, the keyword, and, if used, the other data, to the at least one network locator, such that when the navigation service receives, from a client computer communicatively coupled to the navigation service, command data that includes the entity name, the keyword, and possibly other data, the navigation service responds to the client computer with the at least one network locator.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of provisioning a navigation service, the method comprising: receiving, at the navigation service, over a computer network, and from a name owner or a keyword service, an electronic authorization to resolve command data comprising a keyword, an entity name associated with the name owner, and other data to at least one network locator using the keyword service, whereby the keyword service stores in keyword service persistent memory at least one rule correlating at least the entity name and the other data to the at least one network locator; obtaining a network locator for the keyword service; receiving, over the computer network and from a client computer, command data comprising the entity name and the other data; providing, over the computer network and to the keyword service, at least the entity name and the other data, whereby the keyword service correlates the entity name and the other data to the at least one network locator; obtaining, over the computer network and from the keyword service, the at least one network locator; providing, over the computer network and to the client computer, the at least one network locator. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the other data comprises geolocation data. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the other data comprises data identifying a language. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the command data is derived from a command string provided to the client computer, the command string consisting of a name portion and a keyword portion, wherein the name portion comprises the name and a name space identifier abutting the name, and wherein the keyword portion comprises the keyword. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the keyword portion further comprises a keyword delimiter abutting the keyword, wherein the keyword delimiter is selected from the group consisting of: #, !, “.”, $, and |, and wherein the name space identifier is selected from the group consisting of @, fb, in, and “.”. 6. The method of claim 4 , whereby the other data is provided to the client computer through a user interface, wherein the command data is further derived from the other data. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one network locator comprises a uniform resource locator (URL). 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the navigation service is not a domain name system (DNS) service. 9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising electronically storing at least one rule in navigation service persistent memory correlating an example keyword and the entity name to at least one example network locator. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one rule specifies a database query. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one rule correlating at least the entity name and the other data to the at least one network locator correlates the keyword, the entity name, and the other data to the at least one network locator, and wherein the command data further comprises the keyword. 12. A system for provisioning a navigation service, the system comprising: at least one navigation service server computer communicatively coupled to a computer network and configured to receive, over the computer network and from a name owner or from a keyword service, an electronic authorization to resolve command data comprising a keyword, an entity name associated with the name owner, and other data to at least one network locator using the keyword service comprising at least one keyword service server computer, whereby the keyword service stores in keyword service persistent memory at least one rule correlating at least the entity name and the other data to the at least one network locator; and an electronic memory configured to store a network locator for the keyword service; wherein the at least one navigation service server computer is further configured to receive, over the computer network and from a client computer, command data comprising the entity name and the other data, provide, over the computer network and to the keyword service, at least the entity name and the other data, whereby the keyword service correlates the entity name and the other data to the at least one network locator, obtain, over the computer network and from the keyword service, the at least one network locator, and provide, over the computer network and to the client computer, the at least one network locator. 13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the other data comprises geolocation data. 14. The system of claim 12 , wherein the other data comprises data identifying a language. 15. The system of claim 12 , wherein the command data is derived from a command string provided to the client computer, the command string consisting of a name portion and a keyword portion, wherein the name portion comprises the name and a name space identifier abutting the name, and wherein the keyword portion comprises the keyword. 16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the keyword portion further comprises a keyword delimiter abutting the keyword, wherein the keyword delimiter is selected from the group consisting of: #, !, “.”, $, and |, and wherein the name space identifier is selected from the group consisting of @, fb, in, and “.”. 17. The system of claim 15 , whereby the other data is provided to the client computer through a user interface, wherein the command data is further derived from the other data. 18. The system of claim 12 , wherein the at least one network locator comprises a uniform resource locator (URL). 19. The system of claim 12 , wherein the navigation service is not a domain name system (DNS) service. 20. The system of claim 12 , wherein the at least one navigation service server computer is further configured to store at least one rule in navigation service persistent memory correlating an example keyword and the entity name to at least one example network locator. 21. The system of claim 12 , wherein the at least one rule specifies a database query. 22. The system of claim 12 , wherein the at least one rule correlating at least the entity name and the other data to the at least one network locator correlates the keyword, the entity name, and the other data to the at least one network locator, and wherein the command data further comprises the keyword. 23. A method of provisioning a navigation service, the method comprising: receiving, at the navigation service, over a computer network, and from a name owner or a keyword service, an electronic authorization to resolve command data comprising a keyword, an entity name associated with the name owner, and other data to at least one network locator using the keyword service, whereby the keyword service stores in keyword service persistent memory at least one rule correlating at least the entity name and the other data to the at least one network locator; obtaining a network locator for the keyword service; receiving, over the computer network and from a client computer, command data comprising the entity name and the other data; correlating the entity name and the keyword to the network locator for the keyword service; and providing, over the computer network and to the client computer, the network locator for the keyword service; whereby the client computer provides at least the entity name and the other data to the keyword service, whereby the keyword service correlates the entity name and the other data to the at least one network locator, whereby the client computer receives the at least one
