Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Systems and methods are disclosed for using geometry sensitivity information for guiding workflows in order to produce reliable models and quantities of interest. One method includes determining a geometric model associated with a target object; determining one or more quantities of interest; determining sensitivity information associated with one or more subdivisions of the geometric model and the one or more quantities of interest; and generating, using a processor, a workflow based on the sensitivity information.

What is claimed is: 1. A computer-implemented method of guiding a workflow for building a geometric model, using a computer system, the method comprising: receiving patient-specific data including one or more images of a patient's anatomy; determining, based on the one or more images, a geometric model of the patient's anatomy, the geometric model being defined by a plurality of geometric parameters; determining one or more quantities of interest associated with the patient's anatomy; determining a sensitivity value of a first quantity of interest with respect to a change in value of a first geometric parameter of modeled anatomy from the geometric model of the patient's anatomy, the first quantity of interest being of the one or more quantities of interest, and the first geometric parameter being of the plurality of geometric parameters; determining a workflow comprising multiple views of one or more regions of the geometric model, wherein the workflow is configured to enable a user to advance from view to view in the workflow; generating or modifying, using a processor, a sequence in which views of the workflow are displayed based on the determined sensitivity value of the first quantity of interest; and electronically displaying the views of the workflow to a user according to the sequence based on the determined sensitivity value of the first quantity of interest. 2. The method of claim 1 , further including: determining a functional relationship between the first quantity of interest and a subdivision of the geometric model; and calculating the first quantity of interest further based on the determined functional relationship. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the sensitivity value measures variance calculated based on the one or more quantities of interest. 4. The method of claim 1 , further including: determining one or more subdivisions of the geometric model based on an interval or one or more features of the geometric model; and determining associations between the one or more subdivisions of the geometric model. 5. The method of claim 4 , further including: assigning the sensitivity value to the one or more subdivisions of the geometric model based on the associations between the one or more subdivisions of the geometric model. 6. The method of claim 1 , further including: determining one or more types of uncertainty based on the geometric model, wherein the sensitivity value is a measure of the one or more types of uncertainty in the geometric model. 7. The method of claim 1 , further including: determining one or more threshold values associated with the sensitivity value; and determining one or more sequences for displaying the views based on the one or more threshold values being exceeded. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the views are presented as user-visible representations of the geometric model highlighting of one or more regions of the geometric model based on the sensitivity value, one or more threshold values associated with the sensitivity value, or a combination thereof. 9. A system of guiding a workflow for building a geometric model, the system comprising: a data storage device storing instructions for guiding the workflow using geometry sensitivity information; and a processor configured to execute the instructions to perform a method including: receiving patient-specific data including one or more images of a patient's anatomy; determining, based on the one or more images, a geometric model of a patient's anatomy, the geometric model being defined by a plurality of geometric parameters; determining one or more quantities of interest associated with the patient's anatomy; determining a sensitivity value of a first quantity of interest with respect to a change in value of a first geometric parameter of modeled anatomy from the geometric model of the patient's anatomy, the first quantity of interest being of the one or more quantities of interest, and the first geometric parameter being of the plurality of geometric parameters; determining a workflow comprising multiple views of one or more regions of the geometric model, wherein the workflow is configured to enable a user to advance from view to view in the workflow; generating or modifying a sequence in which views of the workflow are displayed based on the determined sensitivity value of first quantity of interest; and electronically displaying the views of the workflow to a user according to the sequence based on the determined sensitivity value of the first quantity of interest. 10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured for: determining a functional relationship between the first quantity of interest and a subdivision of the geometric model; and calculating the first quantity of interest further based on the determined functional relationship. 11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the sensitivity value measures variance calculated based on the one or more quantities of interest. 12. The system of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured for: determining one or more subdivisions of the geometric model based on an interval or one or more features of the geometric model; and determining associations between the one or more subdivisions of the geometric model. 13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured for: assigning the sensitivity value to the one or more subdivisions of the geometric model based on the associations between the one or more subdivisions of the geometric model. 14. The system of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured for: determining one or more types of uncertainty based on the geometric model, wherein the sensitivity value is a measure of the one or more types of uncertainty in the geometric model. 15. The system of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured for: determining one or more threshold values associated with the sensitivity value; and determining one or more sequences for displaying the views based on the one or more threshold values being exceeded. 16. The system of claim 9 , wherein the views are presented as user-visible representations of the geometric model highlighting of one or more regions of the geometric model based on the sensitivity value, one or more threshold values associated with the sensitivity value, or a combination thereof. 17. A non-transitory computer readable medium for use on a computer system containing computer-executable programming instructions for guiding a workflow for building a geometric model, the method comprising: receiving patient-specific data including one or more images of a patient's anatomy; determining, based on the one or more images, a geometric model of a patient's anatomy, the geometric model being defined by a plurality of geometric parameters; determining one or more quantities of interest associated with the patient's anatomy; determining a sensitivity value of a first quantity of interest with respect to a change in value of a first geometric parameter of modeled anatomy from the geometric model of the patient's anatomy, the first quantity of interest being of the one or more quantities of interest, and the first geometric parameter being of the plurality of geometric parameters; determining a workflow comprising multiple views of one or more regions of the geometric model, wherein the workflow is configured to enable a user to advance from view to view in the workflow; generating or modifying, using a processor, a sequence in which views of the workflow are displayed
