An adjustment assembly for pump casing of a pump, the pump casing including a main part and a side part having a main axis and a side wall section extending laterally with respect to the main axis. The adjustment assembly is operable to cause relative displacement between the side part and the main part of the pump casing. The adjustment assembly includes a drive device and an actuator which can be activated externally of the pump, the drive device being operable to cause the relative displacement of the side part in response to activation of said actuator, the relative displacement capable of being a combination of axial and rotational movement.

The invention claimed is: 1. An adjustment assembly for a pump casing of a pump, the pump casing including a main part and a side part having a main axis and a side wall section extending laterally with respect to the main axis, the adjustment assembly being structured to operably cause relative displacement between the side part and the main part of the pump casing, the adjustment assembly including: a drive and an actuator, said drive being operable to cause said relative displacement of the side part of the pump casing relative to the main part of the pump casing in response to activation of said actuator, the drive including an inner annular ring, operatively connected to the side part of the pump casing, and an outer annular ring, co-axial with and overlying the inner annular ring, each annular ring having cooperating threaded sections arranged such that rotation of the outer annular ring causes axial displacement of the inner annular ring, and further including a lock operable to lock the inner annular ring and outer annular ring together so that when locked together the two annular rings are caused to rotate together, and wherein said relative displacement is a result of both a simultaneous axial and rotational movement. 2. The adjustment assembly according to claim 1 , wherein said inner annular ring and outer annular ring are positioned to effect said relative displacement while the pump is operating. 3. The adjustment assembly according to claim 1 , further including a transmission operable to transmit power from the actuator to said drive. 4. A pump side part for a pump that includes an outer housing which encapsulates a pump casing, the pump casing including a main part positioned to cooperate with the side part and an adjustment assembly for adjusting the side part relative to the main part, the pump side part comprising: a side wall section having a central axis, a front face, a rear face and a peripheral rim; an inlet section of lesser diameter than the side wall section, the inlet section being coaxial with and extending from the front face of the side wall section and terminating at a free end; an alignment surface positioned at the free end of the inlet section oriented for locating against the pump casing; and a centering surface on said peripheral rim positioned to abut against a cooperating surface on the main part of the pump casing to permit rotational and axial sliding displacement of the peripheral rim relative to the main part of the pump casing in use. 5. The pump side part according to claim 4 , further including a circumferential locating rib extending from the front face of the side wall section and between the inlet section and the peripheral rim of the side wall section. 6. The pump side part according to claim 5 , further including a position indicator for indicating the position of the side part. 7. The pump side part according to claim 6 , wherein said position indicator comprises a mark on the outer surface of the inlet section. 8. The pump side part according to claim 4 , wherein the side wall section, inlet section and centering or alignment surface are arranged such that adjustment can be effected during operation of the pump.
