Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Pulse jet air cleaner systems, components and methods are described. The features relate to air cleaner housings that include a cartridge receiving section. Features described relate to a possible two-stage construction, a possible pulse jet accumulator section, pulse jet equipment for cleaning a filter cartridge positioned within the air cleaner; possible evacuation valve arrangements for projection of dust from the air cleaners; and other example features. Methods of assembly and use are also provided.

First claim

Opening claim text (preview).

What is claimed is: 1. An air cleaner assembly comprising: (a) a housing including an outer wall defining an air flow inlet, an air flow outlet and an interior; (b) an inlet arrangement, on the outer wall, comprising an air inlet tube positioned to direct air flow through the air flow inlet; (c) a filter cartridge removably positioned in the housing and comprising media positioned around, and defining, a cartridge open central interior; (d) a pulse jet arrangement configured to direct a pulse of compressed gas into the cartridge open central interior; (e) a louver arrangement positioned on the sidewall at the air flow inlet; (i) the louver arrangement being positioned and configured, as a plurality of openings in the outer wall, to direct air flow entering the housing interior, from the air inlet tube into a helical pattern around the filter cartridge; and, (f) a dust evacuation arrangement configured to provide for ejection of dust during pulse jet operation; the dust evacuation arrangement including a dust ejection port arrangement in the housing. 2. An air cleaner assembly according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the louver arrangement comprises a plurality of tips of bent portions of the sidewall. 3. An air cleaner assembly according to claim 2 wherein: (a) at least some tips, of the plurality of tips, are bent into the housing interior. 4. An air cleaner assembly according to claim 2 wherein: (a) at least some tips, of the plurality of tips, are bent away from the interior of the housing. 5. An air cleaner assembly according to claim 1 including: (a) an inlet valve arrangement positioned to bias between a first open inflow position; and, a second, closed, position; (i) when in the first open inflow position, the inlet valve arrangement allowing inlet flow through the air flow inlet into the housing; and, (ii) when in the second, closed, position, the inlet valve arrangement being positioned to inhibit pulse flow out through the air flow inlet. 6. An air cleaner assembly according to claim 5 wherein: (a) the inlet valve arrangement comprises a flexible valve member mounted inside the housing in a position permitting flex of the flexible valve member between: a second position over the air flow aperture arrangement; and, a first position away from the air flow aperture arrangement. 7. An air cleaner assembly according to claim 5 wherein: (a) the inlet valve arrangement is a spring loaded valve arrangement positioned in the inlet tube and configured: (i) to bias closed, under pressure with the interior of the housing during pulsing; and, (ii) to bias open during inlet flow through the inlet tube. 8. An air cleaner assembly according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the pulse distribution arrangement includes a conical splitter member. 9. An air cleaner assembly according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the evacuation port arrangement comprises an aperture arrangement on the sidewall having a total open area of at least 4 sq. in. 10. An air cleaner assembly according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the evacuation port arrangement on the sidewall comprises an aperture arrangement in the sidewall having a total open area of at least 8 sq. in. 11. An air cleaner assembly according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the cartridge includes an end cap having a radially directed seal thereon. 12. An air cleaner assembly according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the pulse jet arrangement is configured to: direct one or more pulses, as a first pulse event, of compressed gas into the cartridge open central interior; to then wait a selected period of time; and, after the selected period of time to again direct one or more pulses of compressed gas, as a second pulse event, into the central interior of the serviceable filter cartridge. 13. An air cleaner assembly according to claim 12 wherein: (a) the air flow outlet comprises an air flow outlet tube; (b) the housing includes a compressed gas accumulator tank section configured for storage therein of compressed gas; (i) the accumulator tank section being positioned in the housing and surrounding the air flow outlet tube; and, (c) the pulse jet arrangement is configured to: charge the compressed gas accumulator tank section with compressed gas and then to direct the first pulse event of compressed gas from the accumulator tank section into the cartridge central interior; and, to recharge the compressed gas accumulator tank section after the first pulse event and before the second pulse event. 14. An air cleaner assembly according to claim 12 including: (a) a pulse distribution member comprising a conical splitter member.
