Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A touch screen panel Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) display device for decreasing the thickness of a mobile terminal and improving a degree of freedom in design is provided. The touch screen panel AMOLED display device includes a flexible AMOLED disposed on the bottom of a window, and a Chip-On-Film (COF) film connected to the flexible AMOLED and coupled with a flexible AMOLED driver Integrated Circuit (IC). Therefore, the thickness of the touch screen panel AMOLED display device may be decreased, and damage of the AMOLED due to an external shock may be prevented. Additionally, separation of the flexible AMOLED driver IC from a mounting surface may be prevented.

What is claimed is: 1. A display device comprising: a flexible display; a chip on film (COF) having a first surface connected with a first surface of the flexible display; a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) connected with the COF and mounted to a second surface of the flexible display; a buffer member connected to the first surface of the COF to form a cavity using the second surface of the flexible display; and a display drive integrated (DDI) circuit formed in the cavity and configured to: receive instructions from a controller via the FPCB, and generate a video signal to drive the flexible display based on the instructions. 2. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the flexible display comprises a touch screen. 3. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the buffer member is mounted to the first surface of the COF or the second surface of the flexible display. 4. The display device of claim 1 , wherein a first line is substantially perpendicular in a first direction to a planar portion of the COF that is connected to the first surface of the flexible display, and wherein a second line is substantially perpendicular in a second direction to a planar portion of the COF where the buffer member is connected. 5. The display device of claim 4 , wherein the first direction and the second direction are substantially opposite. 6. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the FPCB is attached to the second surface of the flexible display by an adhesive member. 7. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the buffer member comprises a sponge material, and wherein a height of the buffer member is substantially equal to a height of the FPCB. 8. An apparatus comprising: a flexible display; a chip on film (COF) having a first surface connected with a first surface the flexible display; a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) connected with the COF and mounted to a second surface of the flexible display; a buffer member coupled to the first surface of the COF to form a cavity using the second surface of the flexible display; and a display drive integrated (DDI) circuit formed in the cavity and configured to: receive instructions from a controller via the FPCB, and generate a video signal to drive the flexible display based on the instructions. 9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the flexible display comprises a touch screen. 10. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the buffer member is mounted to the first surface of the COF or the second surface of the flexible display. 11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein a first line is substantially perpendicular in a first direction to a planar portion of the COF that is connected to the first surface of the flexible display, and wherein a second line is substantially perpendicular in a second direction to a planar portion of the COF where the buffer member is connected. 12. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the first direction and the second direction are substantially opposite. 13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the FPCB is attached to the second surface of the flexible display by an adhesive member. 14. The apparatus of claim 8 , further comprising: a window formed on or above the flexible display. 15. An apparatus comprising: a display; a chip on film (COF) having a first surface connected with a first surface of the display; a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) connected with at least one portion of the COF and mounted on a second surface of the flexible display; a buffer member mounted to the first surface of the COF to form a cavity using the second surface of the flexible display; and a display drive integrated (DDI) circuit formed in the cavity and configured to: receive instructions from a controller via the FPCB, and generate a video signal to drive the display based on the instructions. 16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the display comprises a flexible display. 17. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the FPCB is attached to the second surface of the flexible display by an adhesive member. 18. An apparatus comprising: a flexible display; a flexible member having a first surface connected with a first surface of the flexible display; a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) connected with the flexible member and mounted to a second surface of the flexible display; a buffer member connected to the first surface of the COF to form a cavity using the second surface of the flexible display; and a display drive integrated (DDI) circuit formed in the cavity and configured to: receive instructions from a controller via the FPCB, and generate a video signal to drive the flexible display based on the instructions, wherein the buffer member is mounted to the first surface of the COF or the second surface of the flexible display.
