Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A first combination of frequency bands is selected for transmitting a first data packet, and a second, different combination of frequency bands is selected for transmitting a second data packet. A data stream is divided into a first set of data and a second set of data. The first set of data is allocated to the first combination of frequency bands, and the second set of data is allocated to the second combination of frequency bands.

The invention claimed is: 1. A device comprising: a plurality of antennas configured to transmit wireless signals comprising packets of data; and a transmitter coupled to the plurality of antennas and configured to produce the wireless signals from a data stream, the transmitter including: a frequency segment parser configured to parse the data stream into a first stream associated with one or more first frequency bands and a second stream associated with one or more second frequency bands, wherein the one or more first frequency bands are different from the one or more second frequency bands; a first stream parser configured to parse the first stream into a first portion of data and a second portion of data; and a first bandwidth module configured to generate a processed first portion of the first stream from the first portion of data, wherein the processed first portion of the first stream is associated with a first portion of the one or more first frequency bands. 2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the transmitter further includes a first adder configured to: receive the processed first portion of the first stream; receive a processed first portion of the second stream, wherein the processed first portion of the second stream is associated with a first portion of the one or more second frequency bands; combine the processed first portion of the first stream with the processed first portion of the second stream; and provide the combination to a first antenna of the plurality of antennas as a first wireless signal for transmission on the first portion of the one or more first frequency bands and on the first portion of the one or more second frequency bands. 3. The device of claim 2 , wherein the transmitter further includes: a second bandwidth module configured to generate a processed portion of the first stream from the second portion of data, wherein the processed second portion of the first stream is associated with a second portion of the one or more first frequency bands; and a second adder configured to: receive the processed second portion of the first stream; receive a processed second portion of the second stream, wherein the processed second portion of the second stream is associated with a second portion of the one or more second frequency bands; combine the processed second portion of the first stream with the processed second portion of the second stream, and provide the combination to a second antenna of the plurality of antennas as a second wireless signal for transmission on the second portion of the one or more first frequency bands and on the second portion of the one or more second frequency bands. 4. The device of claim 2 , wherein the first portion of the one or more first frequency bands is contiguous with the first portion of the one or more second frequency bands. 5. The device of claim 4 , wherein a combined bandwidth of the first portion of the one or more first frequency bands and the first portion of the one or more second frequency bands is 80 MHz. 6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the bandwidth of each frequency band in the one or more first frequency bands and the one or more second frequency bands is one from the group consisting of 20 MHz and 40 MHz. 7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first bandwidth module includes an inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) processor configured to encode the first portion of data of the first stream. 8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the frequency segment parser is coupled to a first scrambler configured to balance the number of ones and zeros in the first stream and is coupled to a second scrambler configured to balance the number of ones and zeros in the second stream. 9. The device of claim 1 , wherein the frequency segment parser is configured to parse the data the data stream unequally between the first stream and the second stream. 10. The device of claim 1 , wherein the frequency segment parser is configured to parse the data stream on a bit-by-bit basis. 11. The device of claim 1 , wherein the data stream includes a plurality of aggregate media access control protocol data units (A-MPDUs),and the frequency segment parser is configured to parse the data stream on an A-MPDU basis. 12. The device of claim 11 , wherein the frequency segment parser is further configured to pad the first stream so that a number of bits of the first stream equals a number of bits of the second stream. 13. The device of claim 1 , wherein the transmitter further includes: a second stream parser configured to parse the second stream into a first portion of data and a second portion of data; and a second bandwidth module configured to generate a processed first portion of the second stream from the first portion of data of the second stream, wherein the first bandwidth module is to process the first portion of data of the first stream concurrently with the second bandwidth module processing the first portion of data of the second stream, and further wherein the processed first portion of the second stream is associated with a first portion of the one or more second frequency bands. 14. The device of claim 13 , wherein the transmitter further includes: a third bandwidth module configured to generate a processed second portion of the first stream from the second portion of data of the first stream, wherein the first bandwidth module is to process the first portion of data of the first stream concurrently with the third bandwidth module processing the second portion of data of the first stream, and further wherein the processed second portion of the first stream is associated with a second portion of the one or more first frequency bands; and a fourth bandwidth module configured to generate a processed second portion of the second stream from the second portion of data of the second stream, wherein the second bandwidth module is to process the first portion of data of the second stream concurrently with the fourth bandwidth module processing the second portion of data of the second stream, and further wherein the processed second portion of the second stream is associated with a second portion of the one or more second frequency bands. 15. The device of claim 14 , wherein the transmitter further includes: a first adder configured to: receive the processed first portion of the first stream; receive the processed first portion of the second stream; combine the processed first portion of the first stream with the processed first portion of the second stream; and provide the combination to a first antenna of the plurality of antennas as a first wireless signal for transmission on the first portion of the one or more first frequency bands and on the first portion of the one or more second frequency bands; and a second adder configured to: receive the processed second portion of the first stream; receive the processed second portion of the second stream; combine the processed second portion of the first stream with the processed second portion of the second stream; and provide the combination to a second antenna of the plurality of antennas as a second wireless signal for transmission on the second portion of the one or more first frequency bands and on the second portion of the one or more second frequency bands. 16.
