Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A method and system for operating different broadcast system components with different portions of a database includes a method of configuring a broadcast system comprising generating an allocation chart for a broadcast system, communicating a first portion of the allocation chart to a first broadcast system component, operating the first broadcast system component with the first portion of the allocation chart, communicating a second portion of the allocation chart to a second broadcast system component, said first portion different than the second portion, and operating the second broadcast system component with the second portion of the allocation chart. In a further aspect of the disclosure, a broadcast system includes a first broadcast system component, a second broadcast system component and a broadcast operation channel management system generating an allocation chart for the broadcast system. The broadcast operation management channel communicates a first portion of the allocation chart to a first broadcast system component. The first broadcast system component operates with the first portion of the allocation chart. The broadcast operation channel management system communicates a second portion of the allocation chart to the second broadcast system component. The first portion is different than the second portion. The second broadcast system component operates with the second portion of the allocation chart.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of configuring a broadcast system comprising: generating an allocation chart for a broadcast system, said allocation chart comprising an effective time, a revision identifier, a broadcast bit rate associated with each channel, a viewer channel identifier and a service channel identifier; displaying the effective time, the revision identifier, the broadcast bit rate, the viewer channel identifier and the service channel identifier at an operator terminal of the broadcast system; changing at least one of the effective time, the revision identifier, the broadcast bit rate, a view channel identifier and a service channel identifier at the operator terminal; generating a first request for a first portion of the allocation chart from a first broadcast system component; communicating the first portion of the allocation chart less than the allocation chart to the first broadcast system component in response to the first request, said first broadcast system component used for communicating content to a user device; configuring the first broadcast system component to broadcast using the first portion of the allocation chart after the effective time; generating a second request for a second portion of the allocation chart different than the first portion and with a second effective time; communicating the second portion of the allocation chart to the second broadcast system component in response to the second request, said second broadcast system component used for communicating content to the user device; configuring the second broadcast system component to broadcast using the second portion of the allocation chart after the second effective time; generating a program guide, different than the allocation chart at the broadcast system; communicating the program guide without communicating the allocation chart to the user device; and displaying the program guide at the user device. 2. A method as recited in claim 1 further comprising determining a local time, and when the local time is equal to or greater than the effective time, configuring the first broadcast system component with the first portion. 3. A method as recited in claim 1 further comprising determining a local time, and when the local time is equal to or greater than the effective time, configuring the first broadcast system component with the second portion. 4. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein communicating a first portion of the allocation chart to a first broadcast system component comprises communicating the first portion of the allocation chart to the first broadcast system component using a first data format. 5. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein communicating a second portion of the allocation chart to a second broadcast system component comprises communicating the second portion of the allocation chart to the second broadcast system component using a second data format. 6. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein communicating a first portion of the allocation chart to a first broadcast system component comprises communicating the first portion of the allocation chart to the first broadcast system component from a broadcast operation channel management system. 7. A method as recited in 6 wherein communicating a second portion of the allocation chart to a second broadcast system component comprises communicating the second portion of the allocation chart to the second broadcast system component from the broadcast operation channel management system. 8. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein prior to communicating a first portion, communicating a first data selection from the first broadcast system component to a broadcast operation channel management system. 9. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein prior to communicating a first portion, communicating a first data format from the first broadcast system component to a broadcast operation channel management system. 10. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein further comprising communicating a second data selection from the first broadcast system component to a broadcast operation channel management system. 11. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein further comprising communicating a second data format from the second broadcast system component to a broadcast operation channel management system. 12. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein further comprising communicating a first data selection from the first broadcast system component to a broadcast operation channel management system and communicating a second data selection from the first broadcast system component to a broadcast operation channel management system, said first data selection different than the second selection. 13. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein communicating the first portion comprises communicating a service channel identifier. 14. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein communicating the first portion comprises communicating a program station. 15. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein communicating the first portion comprises communicating a bit rate allocation. 16. A broadcast system comprising: a first broadcast system component generating a first request for a first portion of an allocation chart, said allocation chart comprising an effective time, a revision identifier, a broadcast bit rate associated with each channel, a viewer channel identifier and a service channel identifier; an operator terminal displaying the effective time, the revision identifier, the broadcast bit rate, a view channel identifier and a service channel identifier of the broadcast system, and changing at least one of the effective time, the revision identifier, the broadcast bit rate, the viewer channel identifier and the service channel identifier; a second broadcast system component generating a second request for a second portion of the allocation chart different than the first portion and with a second effective time; a broadcast operation channel management system receiving the first request and the second request, generating the allocation chart for the broadcast system, communicating the first portion of the allocation chart less than the allocation chart to a first broadcast system component in response to the first request, said first broadcast system component used for communicating content to a user device; said first broadcast system component configured for broadcasting using the first portion of the allocation chart after the effective time; said broadcast operation channel management system communicating the second portion of the allocation chart to the second broadcast system component in response to the second request, said first portion different than the second portion; and said second broadcast system component used for communicating content to the user device and configured for broadcasting using the second portion of the allocation chart after the second effective time; said broadcast system generating a program guide, different than the allocation chart, and communicating the program guide without communicating the allocation chart to the user device; and said user device displaying the program guide at the user device. 17. A broadcast system as recited in claim 16 wherein the first broadcast system component communicates a first data selection to the broadcast operation channel management system. 18. A broadcast system as recited in claim 16 wherein the first broadcast system component communicates a first data format to the broadcast operation channel management system. 19. A broadc
