Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A method and apparatus for enhanced uplink (EU) dedicated channel data transmission. On a condition that a scheduling message is not available, wherein the scheduling message is for scheduling scheduled data transmission, a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) transmits non-scheduled data up to a threshold amount of data in absence of the scheduling message. On a condition that scheduled data for a logical channel is in an EU data buffer of the WTRU, the WTRU transmits EU scheduling information with EU non-scheduled data transmission in absence of the scheduling message, wherein the scheduling information indicates a total amount of data in the EU data buffer and an amount of EU data buffered for a priority logical channel. The WTRU receives a scheduling message in response to the transmitted EU scheduling information and transmits the scheduled data in response to the scheduling message.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A method for use by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for enhanced uplink (EU) transmission, the method comprising: transmitting a scheduling request message to a Node-B, wherein the scheduling request message comprises at least an identification of a logical channel having an associated priority, wherein the logical channel is mapped to an enhanced dedicated channel, and wherein the scheduling request message comprises an indication of an amount of EU data associated with the logical channel having the associated priority, wherein the scheduling request message is a request for uplink resources from the Node-B, and wherein the scheduling request message is transmitted in a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU), and wherein the MAC PDU includes information in a header of the MAC PDU that identifies that the scheduling request message is included in the MAC PDU; receiving information from the Node-B that grants a scheduled EU data transmission; transmitting EU data over the enhanced dedicated channel based on the received information; and transmitting an updated scheduling request message on a condition that additional EU data is available for transmission. 2. The method of claim 1 further comprising transmitting EU data up to a predetermined threshold without being scheduled for EU transmission by a Node-B. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the scheduling request message further comprises an indication of a total amount of EU data, wherein the total amount of EU data is a total of each logical channel from which data is selected for transmission. 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the EU data is transmitted over a plurality of physical channels. 5. The method of claim 1 wherein the scheduling request message is multiplexed with EU data. 6. The method of claim 5 wherein the scheduling request message is multiplexed with EU data at a medium access control (MAC) layer. 7. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising: an antenna operatively coupled to at least one circuit; and the at least one circuit configured to transmit a scheduling request message to a Node-B, wherein the scheduling request message comprises at least an identification of a logical channel having an associated priority, wherein the logical channel is mapped to an enhanced dedicated channel, and wherein the scheduling request message comprises an indication of an amount of enhanced uplink (EU) data associated with the logical channel having the associated priority, wherein the scheduling request message is a request for uplink resources from the Node-B, and wherein the scheduling request message is transmitted in a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU), and wherein the MAC PDU includes information in a header of the MAC PDU that identifies that the scheduling request message is included in the MAC PDU; the at least one circuit configured to receive information from the Node-B that grants a scheduled EU data transmission; the at least one circuit configured to transmit EU data over the enhanced dedicated channel based on the received information; and the at least one circuit configured to transmit an updated scheduling request message on a condition that additional EU data is available for transmission. 8. The WTRU of claim 7 wherein the at least one circuit is configured to transmit EU data up to a predetermined threshold without being scheduled for EU transmission by a Node-B. 9. The WTRU of claim 7 wherein the scheduling request message further comprises an indication of a total amount of EU data, wherein the total amount of EU data is a total of each logical channel from which data is selected for transmission. 10. The WTRU of claim 7 wherein the EU data is transmitted over a plurality of physical channels. 11. The WTRU of claim 7 wherein the scheduling request message is multiplexed with EU data. 12. The WTRU of claim 11 wherein the scheduling request message is multiplexed with EU data at a medium access control (MAC) layer. 13. A Node-B comprising: an antenna operatively coupled to at least one circuit; and the at least one circuit configured to receive a scheduling request message from a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), wherein the scheduling request message comprises at least an identification of a logical channel having an associated priority, wherein the logical channel is mapped to an enhanced dedicated channel, and wherein the scheduling request message comprises an indication of an amount of enhanced uplink (EU) data associated with the logical channel having the associated priority, wherein the scheduling request message is a request for uplink resources by the WTRU, and wherein the scheduling request message is received in a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU), and wherein the MAC PDU includes information in a header of the MAC PDU that identifies that the scheduling request message is included in the MAC PDU; the at least one circuit configured to transmit information to the WTRU that grants a scheduled EU data transmission; the at least one circuit configured to receive EU data over the enhanced dedicated channel based on the transmitted information; and the at least one circuit configured to receive an updated scheduling request message on a condition that additional EU data is available for transmission by the WTRU. 14. The Node-B of claim 13 wherein the scheduling request message further comprises an indication of a total amount of EU data, wherein the total amount of EU data is a total of each logical channel from which data is selected for transmission. 15. The Node-B of claim 13 wherein the EU data is received over a plurality of physical channels. 16. A method for use by a Node-B, the method comprising: receiving a scheduling request message from a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), wherein the scheduling request message comprises at least an identification of a logical channel having an associated priority, wherein the logical channel is mapped to an enhanced dedicated channel, and wherein the scheduling request message comprises an indication of an amount of enhanced uplink (EU) data associated with the logical channel having the associated priority, wherein the scheduling request message is a request for uplink resources by the WTRU, and wherein the scheduling request message is received in a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU), and wherein the MAC PDU includes information in a header of the MAC PDU that identifies that the scheduling request message is included in the MAC PDU; transmitting information to the WTRU that grants a scheduled EU data transmission; receiving EU data over the enhanced dedicated channel based on the transmitted information; and receiving an updated scheduling request message on a condition that additional EU data is available for transmission by the WTRU. 17.
