The present invention provides a gaming machine including a cabinet housing which houses a receiver and a dispenser. An opening extends through the housing. A receiver chute extends between the opening and the receiver, with the receiver chute having a first receiver portion. Similarly, a dispenser chute extends between the opening and the dispenser, with the dispenser chute having a first dispenser portion. The first receiver portion and the first dispenser portion are coextensive, such that the cabinet housing both receives and dispenses currency and currency-type media at the opening.

What is claimed: 1. In a gaming machine apparatus for receiving and directing currency or tickets to a receiver and for dispensing tickets from a printer where the printer is located above the receiver in gaming machine housing, the apparatus comprising: a bezel mounted to the housing and defining an opening; a receiving chute coupled at a forward end to the bezel and defining a first slot disposed at the opening and at a rearward end coupled to the receiver, the receiving chute at the forward end having a routing portion including an edge and having a rearwardly extending upper surface; a dispensing chute at rearward end coupled to the printer and at forward end coupled to the receiving chute with a dispensing second slot bounded on one side by the upper surface whereby tickets dispensed from the printer travel through the dispensing chute to the dispensing second slot and are directed by the routing portion upper surface to the first slot and whereby currency or tickets inserted into the first slot are directed by the routing portion to the receiving chute of the receiver. 2. The device of claim 1 comprising at least one of said dispensing chute and receiving chute defines a sinuous pathway. 3. In a gaming machine apparatus for receiving and directing currency or tickets to a receiver and for dispensing tickets from a printer, the apparatus comprising: a bezel mounted to the housing and defining an opening; a receiving chute coupled at a forward end to the bezel and defining a first slot disposed at the opening and having a rearward end coupled to the receiver, the receiving chute at the forward end having a routing portion including an edge and having a rearwardly extending surface; a dispensing chute at rearward end coupled to the printer and at forward end coupled to the receiving chute and having a dispensing second slot bounded on a lower margin by the surface whereby tickets dispensed from the printer travel through the dispensing chute to the dispensing second slot and are directed by the routing portion surface to the first slot and opening and whereby currency or tickets inserted into the opening and first slot are directed by the routing portion of the receiving chute to the receiver.
