Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The present invention relates to a method of and an arrangement for transferring a process liquid from a washing and thickening device to a subsequent process stage. In accordance with an advantageous embodiment of the present invention, the method and the arrangement are applicable, for example, in transferring fiber suspensions or pulps from washing and thickening device to a subsequent process stage in pulp and paper making industry such that the dilution of pulp after a washing and thickening device is performed in a stand pipe ( 18 ) below the surface level control range.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of transferring a fiber suspension from a washing and thickening device to a subsequent process stage, the method comprising the steps of: providing the stand pipe with measuring means with a surface level control range having an upper surface level control limit and a lower surface level control limit, washing and thickening the fiber suspension to a first consistency in a washing and thickening device, discharging the fiber suspension from the washing and thickening device at the first consistency, introducing the fiber suspension at the first consistency directly from the top part of the washing and thickening device into a stand pipe among the fiber suspension present in the stand pipe, the stand pipe having a cross section, diluting the fiber suspension into a second consistency by diluting means in the stand pipe by spreading and feeding dilution liquid by the diluting means to the cross section of the stand pipe in communication with the fiber suspension, the diluting means being positioned and dimensioned such that the average consistency of the fiber suspension in the surface level control range, i.e. a third consistency, is at least 1.5 times the second consistency, and discharging the fiber suspension in the second consistency from the stand pipe. 2. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the washing and thickening device has a discharge screw at the top part thereof. 3. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the washing and thickening device has a discharge screw at the top part thereof, and the fiber suspension is discharged from the discharge screw directly to the stand pipe. 4. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the dilution means is one or more nozzles or openings for introducing dilution liquid to the fiber suspension. 5. The method as recited in claim 4 , wherein the one or more nozzles or openings are arranged to one of the perimeter of the stand pipe and an end of a pipe extending into the stand pipe. 6. The method as recited in claim 5 , wherein the pipe is a rotary hollow shaft of mixing means. 7. The method as recited in claim 6 , wherein the rotary hollow shaft is provided with blades or paddles for introducing and/or mixing the dilution liquid with the fiber suspension. 8. The method as recited in claim 6 , wherein the rotary hollow shaft extends into the stand pipe from above and is provided with blades positioned within the surface level control range, the blades being used for measuring the surface level in the stand pipe. 9. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the pump is provided with a fiber suspension fluidizing means device extending in the discharge outlet opening of the stand pipe. 10. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the washing and thickening device is one of a single roll wash press, a twin roll wash press, and a screw press.
