Disinfecting devices and related methods are provided that apply germicidal ultraviolet light to disinfect dispensing components of food and beverage dispensers. A disinfecting holster for a bar gun includes a support surface configured to interface with a bar gun to support the bar gun when stowed in the holster, a housing coupled with the support surface and surrounding a dispensing nozzle of the bar gun when the bar gun is stowed in the holster, and an ultraviolet light source configured to emit germicidal ultraviolet light onto the nozzle. The housing substantially contains the ultraviolet light within the housing during the application of the ultraviolet light to the dispensing nozzle. The ultraviolet light can be periodically applied to maintain the nozzle in a disinfected state.

What is claimed is: 1. A retrofit kit for incorporating an ultraviolet light disinfection system onto an existing food or beverage dispenser, the kit comprising: an ultraviolet light source configured to couple with an existing food or beverage dispenser and emit germicidal ultraviolet light onto a dispensing port of the dispenser; and a housing configured to couple with the dispenser and surround the dispensing port to contain the emitted germicidal ultraviolet light, wherein the housing includes a nozzle receiving portion for receiving the dispensing port of the dispenser and a light housing portion housing the ultraviolet light source, wherein a wall with an aperture is provided between the nozzle receiving portion and the light housing portion. 2. The retrofit kit of claim 1 , further comprising a controller to periodically activate the ultraviolet light source to maintain the dispensing port in a disinfected state. 3. The retrofit kit of claim 2 , wherein the controller provides for a manually-initiated application of the germicidal ultraviolet light. 4. The retrofit kit of claim 1 , further comprising installation hardware to couple the housing and the ultraviolet light source with the dispenser. 5. The retrofit kit of claim 1 , wherein the housing comprises a reflective internal surface configured to reflect the germicidal ultraviolet light onto the dispensing port of the dispenser. 6. The retrofit kit of claim 5 , wherein the reflective internal surface is shaped to distribute the germicidal ultraviolet light within the housing. 7. The retrofit kit of claim 5 , wherein the reflective internal surface is provided at bottom of the housing such that the germicidal ultraviolet light is emitted into an orifice of the dispensing port of the dispenser. 8. The retrofit kit of claim 1 , further comprising a fan to distribute ozone generated by the germicidal ultraviolet light within the housing. 9. The retrofit kit of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of ultraviolet light sources. 10. The retrofit kit of claim 1 , wherein the housing comprises: a base, wherein the wall with the aperture extends upward from the base; an outer wall to adjoin the base and encase the wall, wherein the outer wall, the base and a first side of the wall define the nozzle receiving portion, and wherein the outer wall and a second side of the wall define the light housing portion; and a cover coupled to the outer wall and further defining the nozzle receiving portion and the light housing portion, the cover having an opening aligned with the nozzle receiving portion and configured to hold the dispensing port of the dispenser; wherein the ultraviolet light source emits the germicidal ultraviolet light through the aperture and into the nozzle receiving portion, wherein the aperture connects an interior of the nozzle receiving portion with an interior of the light housing portion. 11. The retrofit kit of claim 10 , wherein the cover further comprises a grommet installed in the opening and configured to mate with the dispensing port of the dispenser for sealing the nozzle receiving portion closed to prevent escape of the germicidal ultraviolet light from the nozzle receiving portion when the dispensing port of the dispenser is installed in the opening.
