The illuminating color displaying device of claim 1 , wherein said plurality of different light sources are spatially separated from the illuminating surface of the display panel. 5. The illuminating color displaying device of claim 1 , in which the at least one glass core light diffusing waveguide includes (i) a glass core, comprising (a) a region with a plurality of nano-sized structures within said glass core configured to scatter guided light via said plurality of nano-sized structures towards the outer surface, such that said at least one glass core light diffusing waveguide has a scattering-induced attenuation greater than 50 dB/km at illumination wavelength; and (b) a solid glass region surrounding said region with the plurality of nano-sized structures, the solid glass region having a higher refractive index delta than the region with the plurality of nano-sized structures; and (ii) a low index cladding surrounding said glass core, said cladding having a lower refractive index delta than said solid glass region. 6. The illuminating color displaying device of claim 5 , wherein the low index cladding has a refraction index delta of less than −0.5% relative to silica. 7. The illuminating color displaying device of claim 1 , wherein an intensity of light emitted by at least one of the plurality of different light sources is varied independently to create desired visual effects. 8. The illuminating color displaying device of claim 1 , wherein each of the at least one glass core light diffusing waveguides are coupled to said plurality of different light sources emitting light at different wavelengths. 9. The illuminating color displaying device of claim 8 , in which the at least one glass core light diffusing waveguide comprises a plurality of glass core light difussing waveguides arranged in a bundle, ribbon or cable. 10. The illuminating color displaying device of claim 8 , in which the at least one glass core light diffusing comprises a fiber. 11.
