Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Injection systems powered, controlled and network-enabled by a mobile device, and methods for powering and controlling an injection system using a mobile device, are disclosed. An injection device includes a fluid container having a fluid container exit port, an injection driving element adapted to displace fluid from the fluid container through the fluid container exit port, and a connection module connected to the injection driving element, connectable to a mobile device, and adapted to receive electrical power or injection input data from the mobile device.

What is claimed is: 1. An injection device, comprising: an injection driving element capable of displacing fluid from a fluid container through a fluid container exit port, wherein the injection driving element comprises a motor; a housing sleeve having a rear wall, a first side wall, a second side wall, and a bottom wall defining a chamber for receiving a mobile device, wherein the housing sleeve is configured to at least partially enclose a rear surface, two side surfaces, and a bottom surface of the mobile device when the mobile device is received within the chamber, wherein the rear wall of the housing sleeve at least partially encloses the injection driving element and fluid container; a connection module electrically connected to the injection driving element and configured to receive electrical power and data from the mobile device, and wherein the motor is adapted to displace the fluid relative to the fluid container in accordance with, or by an amount in accordance with a signal received at the connection module from the mobile device. 2. The injection device of claim 1 , wherein a portion of the connection module is adapted to mate with the mobile device. 3. The injection device of claim 1 , wherein the connection module is further adapted to power the injection driving element with the electrical power received from the mobile device. 4. The injection device of claim 1 , wherein the injection driving element comprises a plunger element mechanically coupled to the motor. 5. The injection device of claim 4 , wherein the motor is adapted to cause displacement of the plunger element relative to the fluid container in accordance with, or by an amount in accordance with a signal received from the mobile device. 6. The injection device of claim 1 , further comprising a controller interface adapted to receive a signal from the mobile device through the connection module. 7. The injection device of claim 6 , wherein the controller interface translates digital or analog electrical signals input from the mobile device through the connection module, into electric signals output to the injection driving element. 8. The injection device of claim 7 , wherein the electrical signals output to the injection driving element comprise at least one control command for a motor. 9. The injection device of claim 1 , further comprising a fluid container having a fluid container exit port. 10. The injection device of claim 9 , wherein the fluid container comprises a prefillable or prefilled fluid cartridge adapted to be fitted into the housing. 11. The injection device of claim 1 , further comprising a sensor of patient data. 12. The injection device of claim 1 , further comprising a sensor of injection-related information. 13. The injection device of claim 1 , further comprising an identification sensor. 14. The injection device of claim 13 , wherein the injection device is adapted to communicate information from the identification sensor to the mobile device. 15. The injection device of claim 1 , further comprising one or more auxiliary compartments. 16. The injection device of claim 15 , wherein the injection device is adapted to communicate information about the auxiliary compartments to the mobile device. 17. A combination, comprising: the injection device of claim 1 ; and the mobile device connected to the injection device and at least partially enclosed by the sleeve. 18. The combination of claim 17 , wherein the mobile device comprises: a power module adapted to provide power to the injection driving element of the injection device; and a computing module. 19. The combination of claim 17 , wherein the motor of the injection device is adapted to operate according to instructions by the computing module of the mobile device. 20. The combination of claim 17 , wherein the mobile device further comprises: a mobile device connection module connectable to the connection module of the injection device, wherein the mobile device connection module is adapted to connect the injection driving element of the injection device to at least one from the set of the power module and the computing module. 21. The combination of claim 17 , wherein the mobile device is adapted to adjust or modulate injection parameters and monitor injection diagnostics. 22. The combination of claim 17 , wherein the injection device is adapted to report to the mobile device on a status of delivery. 23. The combination of claim 17 , wherein the mobile device further comprises a communication module connectable to a network. 24. The combination of claim 23 , wherein the communication module is adapted to communicate injection, treatment or patient related data to an external device. 25. An injection system, comprising: a mobile device; and an injection device comprising: a fluid container having a fluid container exit port; an injection driving element capable of displacing fluid from the fluid container through the fluid container exit port, wherein the injection driving element comprises: a motor; and a plunger element mechanically coupled to the motor wherein the motor is adapted to cause displacement of the plunger relative to the fluid container in accordance with, or by an amount in accordance with a signal received from the mobile device; a housing sleeve having a rear wall, a first side wall, a second side wall, and a bottom wall defining a chamber for receiving the mobile device, wherein the housing sleeve is configured to at least partially enclose a rear surface, two side surfaces, and a bottom surface of the mobile device when the mobile device is received within the chamber, wherein the rear wall of the housing sleeve at least partially encloses the injection driving element and fluid container. 26. The injection system of claim 25 , further comprising an identification sensor positioned on an exterior surface of the housing sleeve. 27. The injection system of claim 25 , further comprising a connection module electrically connected to the injection driving element and configured to mate with the mobile device, wherein the connection module is configured to receive electrical power and data from the mobile device. 28. The injection system of claim 25 , further comprising a controller interface adapted to receive a signal from the mobile device through the connection module.
