A cover for use with an optic device to hold and display shooting information. The cover may have resilient retention members that allow a display to be releasably attached and detached from the cover. The display may be made from a single substrate or multiple substrates in order to make the shooting information contained thereon highly visible in a variety of conditions and shooting preferences. The display may further be customized by a user to include desired DOPE information and then printed onto the single or multiple substrates. A system and method for creating custom DOPE charts is also provided.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for producing a DOPE chart for insertion into an optic cover cap of an optical device, the optic cover cap having a generally round interior portion, the method comprising: providing a configuration interface on a user computer; providing at least one server for storing and processing data for the configuration interface; selecting one of a plurality of available DOPE chart styles; entering at least one desired DOPE value into a DOPE chart configuration table displayed on the configuration interface; and producing a generally round display, wherein the display includes the DOPE chart, and further wherein the display has a first layer and a second layer and the first layer is a different color than the second layer. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one desired DOPE values are automatically generated from a database of DOPE values. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the database of DOPE values is stored on a server. 4. The method of claim 1 , further including the step of selecting from at least one graphic to be included on the DOPE chart. 5. The method of claim 1 , further including the step of generating and displaying a real-time preview of the DOPE chart on the configuration interface. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the real-time preview is updated using a debounce code. 7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the real-time preview is updated periodically. 8. The method of claim 5 , wherein the real-time preview is a three dimensional rendering that may be manipulated by a user. 9. The method of claim 1 , further including the step of entering custom text on the DOPE chart. 10. The method of claim 1 , further including the step of automatically generating at least one of the DOPE values based on current environmental conditions obtained from an internet based weather database. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the display has a perimeter that includes at least one indent formed into the perimeter such that the display may be released from the optic cover cap. 12. The method of claim 1 , further including the step of purchasing the display using an e-commerce system. 13. The method of claim 1 , further including the step of inserting the display into an optic cover cap. 14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the interior portion of the optic cover cap includes at least one structure configured to engage the display and the display has a generally round shape substantially configured to engage the at least one structure, wherein the at least one structure is selected from the group consisting of a tab, an annular ridge, ring or flange, a post, a magnet, and combinations thereof. 15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the display has a third layer. 16. A system of producing a DOPE chart for insertion into an optic cover cap of an optical device comprising; a configuration interface displayed on a user computer; a DOPE chart configuration database connected to the user computer including a plurality of options from which a user may select to create the DOPE chart; and a printer connected to the dope chart configuration database for printing the DOPE chart onto a medium having a shape conforming to an inner portion of the optic cover cap, wherein the medium has a first layer and a second layer and the first layer is a different color than the second layer. 17. The system of claim 16 wherein the DOPE chart configuration database is stored on a server connected to the user computer via the internet. 18. The system of claim 16 wherein the printer is an engraver. 19. The system of claim 16 , wherein the display has a third layer. 20. A method for producing a DOPE chart for insertion into an optic cover cap of an optical device comprising: entering at least one desired DOPE value from a database of DOPE values stored on a server into a DOPE chart configuration table displayed on a configuration interface of a user computer; and producing a generally round display having a shape conforming to an inner portion of the optic cover cap, wherein the display includes the DOPE chart, and further wherein the display has a first layer and a second layer and the first layer is a different color than the second layer. 21. The method of claim 20 , wherein the display includes at least one indent formed into a perimeter of the display such that the display may be released from the optic cover cap. 22. The method of claim 20 , wherein the display has a third layer.
