Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An optical modulator combines and inputs a signal light propagating through the optical network and a control light having information concerning the optical network to a nonlinear optical medium. The optical modulator modulates the signal light according to changes in intensity of the control light, in the nonlinear optical medium.

What is claimed is: 1. An optical signal-processing apparatus comprising: a plurality of multipliers configured to multiply a plurality of carrier wave signals different in frequency and a plurality of control signals of information, to generate a plurality of sub-carrier signals; a light source configured to modulate a drive current by frequency-division multiplexed signal of the sub-carrier signals, and output a second signal light having the information; and an optical modulator configured to combine and input a first signal light and the second signal light having the information to a nonlinear optical medium, and modulate the first signal light according to changes in intensity of the second signal light, in the nonlinear optical medium. 2. The optical signal-processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the first signal light is a wavelength-division multiplexed light and the optical modulator outputs a modulated wavelength-division multiplexed light. 3. The optical signal-processing apparatus according to claim 2 , further comprising an optical splitter configured to split off the second signal light from the modulated wavelength-division multiplexed light. 4. The optical signal-processing apparatus according to claim 2 , further comprising an optical filter configured to split off the second signal light from the modulated wavelength-division multiplexed light. 5. The optical signal-processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the nonlinear optical medium is an optical fiber. 6. The optical signal-processing apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the optical fiber modulates the first signal light by intensity modulation by optical parametric amplification using the second signal light as a pump light. 7. The optical signal-processing apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the optical fiber outputs, as a modulated light, an idler light which is generated by four wave mixing using the second signal light as a pump light. 8. The optical signal-processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the nonlinear optical medium is part of a laid fiber forming an optical network. 9. The optical signal-processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the second signal light is intensity-modulated based on the information. 10. The optical signal-processing apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the second signal light is subcarrier-modulated by a sub-carrier signal, among the sub-carrier signals, using the information. 11. The optical signal-processing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising: an oscillator configured to output a sub-carrier signal among the sub-carrier signals; a modulator configured to modulate the sub-carrier signal output from the oscillator with the information; and a modulated light output circuit configured to output the second signal light according to a modulated signal output from the modulator. 12. The optical signal-processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the optical modulator has a wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) coupler disposed upstream of the nonlinear optical medium and the WDM coupler combines and inputs the first signal light and the second signal light. 13.
