A method for conducting maintenance on a chromatography column ( 1; 51 ), said column comprising a column tube ( 32 ), a top end cell ( 20 ) and a bottom end cell ( 26 ), where during chromatography said column tube ( 32 ) is secured between said top end cell ( 20 ) and said bottom end cell ( 26 ). Said method comprises the step of rotating at least the top end cell ( 20 ) 180 degrees around a horizontal axis before maintenance is conducted to the top end cell ( 20 ).

What is claimed is: 1. A stand for holding a chromatography column, said column comprising a top end cell, a bottom end cell and a column tube releasably secured between the top end cell and the bottom end cell, the stand comprising, two legs having two rods respectively erected therefrom, and two rotatable upper fastening means respectively secured at the upper portion of the rods, wherein the two rotatable upper fastening means are adapted to be secured to the top end cell on diametrically opposite sides of the top end cell and hold the chromatography column such that the distance between the two rotatable upper fastening means defines an axis and at least the top end cell can be rotated 180 degrees around the axis. 2. The stand of claim 1 , wherein said two rotatable upper fastening means are adapted to be secured to two diametrically opposed positioned tie rods to keep the column tube secured between the top end cell and the bottom end cell. 3. The stand of claim 1 , further comprising two lower fastening means adapted to be secured to the bottom end cell on diametrically opposite sides of the bottom end cell, said lower fastening means being movable on the stand in a vertical direction. 4. The stand of claim 3 , wherein the lower fastening means are adapted to hold the bottom end cell of the chromatography column. 5. A stand for holding a chromatography column that comprises a top end cell, a bottom end cell and a column tube releasably secured between the top end cell and the bottom end cell, the stand comprising, two legs having two rods respectively erected therefrom, two rotatable upper fastening means respectively secured at the upper portion of the rods with the two rotatable upper fastening means adapted to be secured to the top end cell on diametrically opposite sides of the top end cell and hold the chromatography column such that the distance between the two rotatable upper fastening means defines an axis and at least the top end cell can be rotated 180 degrees around the axis, and two lower fastening means adapted to be secured to the bottom end cell on diametrically opposite sides of the bottom end cell with the lower fastening means being movable on the stand in a vertical direction. 6. The stand of claim 5 , wherein said two rotatable upper fastening means are adapted to be secured to two diametrically opposed positioned tie rods to keep the column tube secured between the top end cell and the bottom end cell.
