Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A work vehicle includes left and right track assemblies, each track assembly including a main frame, a pivot member, a pivot shaft coupled to the pivot member, and an actuator coupled between the pivot shaft and the main frame. Each pivot member is mounted to a respective main frame to permit pivotal steering movement about a generally vertical steering axis for steering the track assemblies under the influence of the actuator. Additionally, each track assembly is pivotal about a generally horizontal pitch axis of the respective pivot shaft to permit pitch movement of the respective track assembly. Each track assembly is also pivotal about a generally horizontal camber axis through a portion of the respective pivot member to permit camber movement of the respective track assembly.

The invention claimed is: 1. A work vehicle comprising: left and right track assemblies, each track assembly comprising a main frame, a pivot member, a pivot shaft coupled to the pivot member, and an actuator coupled between the pivot shaft and the main frame, wherein each pivot member is mounted to a respective main frame to permit pivotal steering movement about a generally vertical steering axis for steering the track assemblies under the influence of the actuator, and wherein each track assembly is pivotal about a generally horizontal pitch axis of the respective pivot shaft to permit pitch movement of the respective track assembly, and wherein each track assembly is pivotal about a generally horizontal camber axis through a portion of the respective pivot member to permit camber movement of the respective track assembly. 2. The work vehicle of claim 1 , wherein each main frame comprises generally symmetrically placed securement locations for the actuator to permit use of the same main frame on either the left or the right track assembly. 3. The work vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the main frame, the pivot member, the pivot shaft and the actuator are identical in both the left and right track assemblies. 4. The work vehicle of claim 1 , wherein each pivot shaft is received in a respective tubular member of a vehicle frame. 5. The work vehicle of claim 4 , wherein each pivot shaft supports a respective actuator mounting on a side of the tubular member opposite the respective pivot member. 6. The work vehicle of claim 1 , wherein each pivot member is pivotally received in a recess of the respective main frame. 7. The work vehicle of claim 1 , wherein each track assembly comprises a track guide overlying the respective pivot member that, in operation, at least partially supports a continuous track of the respective track assembly. 8. The work vehicle of claim 1 , wherein each main frame supports front and rear idler wheels and intermediate roller wheels. 9. The work vehicle of claim 8 , wherein each main frame supports a pair of front idler wheels, a pair of rear idler wheels, a front pair of roller wheels, and a rear pair of roller wheels. 10. The work vehicle of claim 8 , wherein none of the wheels is powered in operation. 11. The work vehicle of claim 1 , wherein in camber movement of each track assembly the entire respective main frame pivots about the respective camber axis. 12. The work vehicle of claim 1 , wherein each track assembly is free to move in pitch movement and camber movement independent of the other track assembly. 13. A track assembly for a work vehicle comprising: a main frame, a pivot member, a pivot shaft coupled to the pivot member, and an actuator coupled between the pivot shaft and the main frame, wherein the pivot member is mounted to the main frame to permit pivotal steering movement about a generally vertical steering axis for steering the track assembly under the influence of the actuator, and wherein the track assembly is pivotal about a generally horizontal pitch axis of the pivot shaft to permit pitch movement of the track assembly, and wherein the track assembly is pivotal about a generally horizontal camber axis through a portion of the pivot member to permit camber movement of the track assembly. 14. The track assembly of claim 13 , wherein the main frame, the pivot member, the pivot shaft, and the actuator are configured for assembly such that the same main frame, the same pivot member, the same pivot shaft, and the same actuator may be used on both left and right sides of the vehicle. 15. The track assembly of claim 13 , wherein the pivot shaft is received in a tubular member of a vehicle frame. 16. The track assembly of claim 15 , wherein the pivot shaft supports an actuator mounting on a side of the tubular member opposite the pivot member. 17. The track assembly of claim 13 , wherein the pivot member is pivotally received in a recess of the main frame. 18. A method for making a work vehicle track assembly, comprising: pivotally mounting a pivot member to a main frame to permit pivotal steering movement about a generally vertical steering axis for steering the track assembly under the influence of an actuator; pivotally mounting the pivot member to a pivot shaft about a generally horizontal camber axis to permit camber movement of the track assembly; and pivotally mounting the pivot shaft about a generally horizontal pitch axis of a pivot shaft to permit pitch movement of the track assembly. 19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the main frame comprises generally symmetrically placed securement locations for the actuator to permit use of the same main frame on both a left or a right side of the vehicle. 20. The method of claim 18 , wherein the main frame, the pivot member, the pivot shaft and the actuator are identical in both left and right track assemblies of the vehicle.
