Official abstract text for this publication.
The invention relates to a device comprising a multilayered structure with a first portion and a second portion wherein the first portion is conceived to be rolled about a first roller, said device comprising a second roller for receiving the second portion for at least partially counteracting the effects of mechanical strain induced in the multilayered structure upon said rolling. The first roller is rotated in a first direction, whereby the second roller is rotated in a second direction. Preferably, the diameters of the first roller and the second roller are equal. Alternatively, the edge portions A, B of the multilayer structure are suitably interconnected by stoppers for preventing creeping.

What is claimed is: 1. An electronic device comprising: a flexible display having a first layer stacked on a second layer; a first roller; and a second roller, wherein a first portion of the flexible display is wound about the first roller and a second portion of the flexible display is wound about the second roller, and wherein the first roller and the second roller are rotatable in opposite directions. 2. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the first portion comprises a first edge and the second portion comprises a second edge, and wherein the first and second layers forming a multilayered display structure are mechanically interconnected at least in the area of the first edge and the second edge. 3. The device according to claim 2 , wherein the multilayered display structure further comprises: a compliant middle layer for at least partially counteracting the effects of mechanical strain induced in the multilayered display structure upon the rolling of the multilayered display structure about the first roller. 4. The device according to claim 1 , wherein a diameter of the first roller substantially equals a diameter of the second roller. 5. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the flexible display comprises a plurality of rows, each row being oriented in a roll up direction, which is transverse to a longitudinal axis of a spool or roll. 6. The device according to claim 3 , wherein the flexible display comprises electrophoretic material. 7. The device according to claim 6 , the device being accommodated in a housing comprising: a first housing portion and a second housing portion, the first housing portion being displaceably arranged with respect to the second housing portion, wherein the first roller is arranged in the first housing portion and the second roller is arranged in the second housing portion. 8. The device according to claim 5 , the device being accommodated in a housing comprising: a first housing portion and a second housing portion, the first housing portion being displaceably arranged with respect to the second housing portion, wherein the first roller is arranged in the first housing portion and the second roller is arranged in the second housing portion. 9. A device comprising a multilayered structure comprising: a first portion comprising a first edge; and a second portion comprising a second edge; wherein the first portion is wound about a first roller and the second portion is wound about a second roller, wherein the multilayered structure comprises a first layer stacked on a second layer, wherein the first and second layers are mechanically interconnected at least in the area of the first edge and the second edge, wherein the multilayered structure comprises a flexible display, and wherein the first roller and the second roller are rotatable in opposite directions. 10. The device according to claim 9 , wherein a diameter of the first roller substantially equals a diameter of the second roller. 11. The device according to claim 9 , wherein the flexible display comprises a plurality of rows, each row oriented in a roll up direction, which is transverse to a longitudinal axis of a spool or roll. 12. The device according to claim 11 , wherein the display comprises electrophoretic material. 13. The device according to claim 12 , the device being accommodated in a housing comprising: a first housing portion and a second housing portion, the first housing portion being displaceably arranged with respect to the second housing portion, wherein the first roller is arranged in the first housing portion and the second roller is arranged in the second housing portion. 14. The device according to claim 11 , the device being accommodated in a housing comprising: a first housing portion and a second housing portion, the first housing portion being displaceably arranged with respect to the second housing portion, wherein the first roller is arranged in the first housing portion and the second roller is arranged in the second housing portion. 15. The device according to claim 9 , wherein the multilayered structure further comprises: a compliant middle layer for at least partially counteracting the effects of mechanical strain induced in the multilayered structure upon the rolling of the multilayered structure about the first roller.
