The present disclosure relates to bone plates that are configured for use with bones having periprosthetic fractures. For example, in the event that a proximal femur is fractured in an area that is adjacent to a prosthetic component, such as a femoral stem used in a hip replacement, the periprosthetic bone plates of the present invention may be used. In one exemplary embodiment, the periprosthetic bone plates include a periprosthetic zone having a plurality of central apertures and a plurality of outer apertures that are offset from the central apertures. The periprosthetic zone may further include a plurality of indentations, each indentation extending longitudinally between adjacent outer apertures to narrow a width of the bone plate.

What is claimed is: 1. A bone plate for use with a bone having a periprosthetic fracture, the bone plate having a longitudinal axis that extends from a first end to a second end of the bone plate, the bone plate comprising: a bottom surface configured to face the bone; a top surface opposite the bottom surface; a first side wall and a second side wall joining the top and bottom surfaces; and a periprosthetic zone located toward the first end of the bone plate, the periprosthetic zone including: a plurality of spaced-apart aperture subsets positioned along the length of the periprosthetic zone of the bone plate, wherein each subset of the plurality of spaced-apart aperture subsets includes three apertures extending diagonally across the bone plate relative to the longitudinal axis; and a plurality of apexes formed between adjacent indentations along the first and second side walls, wherein the plurality of apexes and the indentations along the first and second side walls cooperate to maintain a substantially constant width at every point along a portion of the longitudinal axis of the bone plate extending between at least two apexes along the first wall of two adjacent spaced-apart aperture subsets within the periprosthetic zone. 2. The bone plate of claim 1 , wherein each subset of the plurality of spaced-apart aperture subsets includes a central aperture, a first outer aperture, and a second outer aperture. 3. The bone plate of claim 2 , wherein the first outer aperture is located on a first side of the central aperture and adjacent to a first apex along the first side wall and the second outer aperture is located on a second side of the central aperture and adjacent to a second apex along the second side wall, the second side of the central aperture directly opposite the first side of the central aperture. 4. The bone plate of claim 2 , wherein the first outer aperture and the second outer aperture of each subset is sized to receive a polyaxial bone screw, the polyaxial bone screw adjustable between a collinear arrangement and an angled arrangement relative to an axis of the first outer aperture and the second outer aperture. 5. The bone plate of claim 1 , further including a non-periprosthetic zone located toward the second end of the bone plate and a transition zone located between the non-periprosthetic zone and the periprosthetic zone, wherein the transition zone and the non-periprosthetic zone include a plurality of central apertures that extend along the longitudinal axis. 6. The bone plate of claim 1 , further including a plurality of scallops that extend into the bone plate, wherein at least a first scallop of the plurality of scallops is positioned between two adjacent spaced-apart aperture subsets along the first side wall of the bone plate and at least a second scallop of the plurality of scallops is positioned between the two adjacent spaced-apart aperture subsets along the second side wall of the bone plate. 7. A bone plate for use with a bone having a periprosthetic fracture, the bone plate having a longitudinal axis that extends from a first end to a second end of the bone plate, the bone plate comprising: a bottom surface configured to face the bone; a top surface opposite the bottom surface; a first side wall and a second side wall joining the top and bottom surfaces; a periprosthetic zone located toward the first end of the bone plate, the periprosthetic zone including: a plurality of central apertures that extend along the longitudinal axis; a plurality of outer apertures, each outer aperture of the plurality of outer apertures vertically and horizontally offset from a corresponding central aperture of the plurality of central apertures; and a plurality of indentations in the first and second side walls, each indentation extending longitudinally between adjacent outer apertures, wherein the indentations on opposing side walls cooperate to maintain a substantially constant width along a portion of the bone plate within the periprosthetic zone; and a non-periprosthetic zone located toward the second end of the bone plate, the non-periprosthetic zone including only central apertures extending along the longitudinal axis. 8. The bone plate of claim 7 , further including a transition zone located between the non-periprosthetic zone and the periprosthetic zone. 9. The bone plate of claim 8 , wherein the transition zone and the non-periprosthetic zone include a plurality of central apertures that extend along the longitudinal axis. 10. The bone plate of claim 8 , wherein the transition zone contains only central apertures. 11. The bone plate of claim 8 , wherein the first and second side walls along the transition zone and the non-periprosthetic have a substantially flat surface. 12. The bone plate of claim 8 , wherein a first width of the bone plate along the periprosthetic zone is greater than a second width of the bone plate along the transition zone and a third width of the bone plate along the non-periprosthetic zone. 13. The bone plate of claim 12 , wherein the second width of the bone plate along the transition zone is greater than the third width of the bone plate along the non-periprosthetic zone. 14. The bone plate of claim 8 , wherein a first thickness of the bone plate along the transition zone is greater than a second thickness of the bone plate along the periprosthetic zone and a third thickness of the bone plate along the non-periprosthetic zone. 15. The bone plate of claim 7 , wherein adjacent indentations along the first and second side walls form an apex therebetween, and wherein each indentation extends inwardly toward the longitudinal axis of the bone plate until reaching a maximum depth at a base. 16. The bone plate of claim 15 , wherein a first base on a first side of the bone plate aligns with a first apex on an opposing second side of the bone plate in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bone plate. 17. The bone plate of claim 7 , wherein each of the plurality of outer apertures is sized to receive a polyaxial bone screw, the polyaxial bone screw adjustable between a collinear arrangement and an angled arrangement relative to an axis of the plurality of outer apertures. 18. A bone plate for use with a bone having a periprosthetic fracture, the bone plate having a longitudinal axis that extends from a first end to a second end of the bone plate, the bone plate comprising: a bottom surface configured to face the bone; a top surface opposite the bottom surface; a first side wall and a second side wall joining the top and bottom surfaces; and a periprosthetic zone located toward the first end of the bone plate, the periprosthetic zone including: a plurality of spaced-apart aperture subsets positioned along the length of the periprosthetic zone of the bone plate, wherein each subset of the plurality of spaced-apart aperture subsets includes three apertures extending diagonally across the bone plate relative to the longitudinal axis; and a plurality of apexes formed between adjacent indentations along the first and second side walls, wherein the first and second side walls move a distance from the longitudinal axis along at least a portion of the perirposthetic zone such that as the first wall side narrows inwardly toward the longitudinal axis the second side wall widens outwardly from the longitudinal axis in a simultaneous opposite behavior.
