A method of transferring a plurality of articles onto an outfeed carrier is provided. The method includes: advancing a plurality of articles in a first direction; advancing an outfeed carrier surface of an outfeed carrier apparatus in a second direction at an outfeed carrier surface velocity; providing a transfer apparatus, wherein the transfer apparatus comprises a frame and an article stabilization member operatively connected with the frame; engaging the plurality of articles with the article stabilization member in the engaging location; accelerating the plurality of articles in the second direction to transfer the plurality of articles from the transport member to the outfeed carrier surface; decelerating the plurality of articles between the engaging zone and the discharge zone to substantially match the velocity of the plurality of articles and the outfeed carrier surface velocity; and disengaging the plurality of articles from the article stabilization member in the placement location.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of transferring a plurality of articles onto an outfeed carrier, the method comprising the steps of: advancing a plurality of articles in a first direction; advancing an outfeed carrier surface of an outfeed carrier apparatus in a second direction at an outfeed carrier surface velocity; providing a transfer apparatus, wherein the transfer apparatus comprises a frame and an article stabilization member operatively connected with the frame; engaging the plurality of articles with the article stabilization member in an engaging location; accelerating the plurality of articles in the second direction to transfer the plurality of articles onto the outfeed carrier surface; decelerating the plurality of articles between the engaging location and a placement location on the outfeed carrier surface to substantially match the velocity of the plurality of articles and the outfeed carrier surface velocity; and disengaging the plurality of articles from the article stabilization member in the placement location. 2. The method of transferring a plurality of articles of claim 1 further comprising the step of controlling the second-directional position of the plurality of articles with the article stabilization member as the article stabilization member accelerates and decelerates from the engaging location to the placement location. 3. The method of transferring a plurality of articles of claim 1 , wherein the placement location is variably spaced from the engaging location. 4. The method of transferring a plurality of articles of claim 1 , wherein the transfer apparatus further comprises a second article stabilization member operatively connected with the frame, the method further comprising the steps of: advancing a second plurality of articles in the first direction; engaging the second plurality of articles with the second article stabilization member in the engaging location; accelerating the second plurality of articles in the second direction to transfer the second plurality of articles onto the outfeed carrier surface; decelerating the second plurality of articles between the engaging location and the placement location to substantially match the velocity of the second plurality of articles and the outfeed carrier surface velocity; and disengaging the second plurality of articles from the article stabilization member in the placement location adjacent to the first plurality of articles to form an array of articles, wherein the first plurality of articles are spaced in the second direction from the second plurality of articles by a row spacing. 5. The method of transferring a plurality of articles of claim 4 , wherein the transfer apparatus comprises a transfer apparatus control system, wherein the transfer apparatus control system uses the outfeed carrier surface velocity, the position of the first plurality of articles, and the row spacing between the first and second plurality of articles to determine the placement location for the second plurality of articles. 6. The method of transferring a plurality of articles of claim 1 , wherein the article stabilization member comprises a centering bell, wherein the centering bell has an interior surface that is shaped to substantially match a shape of a portion of an individual article, wherein the step of engaging the plurality of articles with the article stabilization member in the engaging location further comprises moving the article stabilization member in a Z-direction down over the top of the plurality of articles such that each centering bell engages with an individual article. 7. The method of transferring a plurality of articles of claim 1 , wherein the article stabilization member is movable in an X-direction and a Z-direction. 8. The method of transferring a plurality of articles of claim 1 , wherein the step of advancing a plurality of articles in a first direction further comprising advancing the plurality of articles on a transport member of a grouping apparatus in the first direction. 9. A method of transferring a plurality of articles onto an outfeed carrier surface, the method comprising the steps of: advancing a plurality of articles in a first direction; advancing an outfeed carrier surface of an outfeed carrier apparatus in a second direction at an outfeed carrier surface velocity; providing a transfer apparatus comprising a frame and an article stabilization member operatively connected with the frame; engaging the plurality of articles with the article stabilization member in an engaging location; advancing the plurality of articles in the second direction; substantially matching the velocity of the plurality of articles and the outfeed carrier surface velocity; controlling the second-directional position of the plurality of articles with the article stabilization member as the plurality of articles advance in the second direction; and disengaging the plurality of articles from the article stabilization member in a placement location. 10. The method of transferring a plurality of articles of claim 9 , wherein the placement location is variably spaced from the engaging location. 11. The method of transferring a plurality of articles of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of articles is a first plurality of articles, wherein the transfer apparatus further comprises a second article stabilization member operatively connected with the frame, the method further comprising the steps of: advancing a second plurality of articles in the first direction; engaging the second plurality of articles with the article stabilization member in the engaging location; accelerating the second plurality of articles to transfer the second plurality of articles onto the outfeed carrier surface; decelerating the second plurality of articles between the engaging zone and the discharge zone to substantially match the velocity of the second plurality of articles and the outfeed carrier surface velocity; and disengaging the plurality of articles from the article stabilization member in the placement location adjacent to the first plurality of articles to form an array of articles, wherein the first plurality of articles and the second plurality of articles are spaced apart in the second direction by a row spacing. 12. The method of transferring a plurality of articles of claim 11 , wherein the transfer apparatus comprises a transfer apparatus control system, wherein the transfer apparatus control system uses the outfeed carrier surface velocity, the position of the first plurality of articles on the outfeed carrier surface, and the row spacing between the first and second plurality of articles to determine the placement location for the second plurality of articles. 13. The method of transferring a plurality of articles of claim 9 , wherein the first direction is orthogonal to the second direction. 14. The method of transferring a plurality of articles of claim 9 , wherein the step of advancing a plurality of articles in a first direction further comprising advancing the plurality of articles on a transport member of a grouping apparatus in the first direction. 15. A method of forming an array of articles on an outfeed carrier apparatus, the method comprising the steps of: advancing a plurality of articles in a first direction on a grouping apparatus; advancing an outfeed carrier surface of an outfeed carrier apparatus in a second direction at an outfeed carrier surface velocity; providing a transfer apparatus comprising: a frame; a first article stabilization member operatively connected with the frame; and a second article
