Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Disclosed herein are methods and systems for executing a first transaction at a checkout system at substantially the same time that a second transaction is started at the checkout system. For example, a cashier can scan one or more items, adding the items to a first transaction. When all items have been added to the first transaction and a first customer is making a payment in the first transaction, the cashier can begin to add items to a second transaction, such that execution of the first transaction occurs at substantially the same time that items are added to the second transaction.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A system comprising: a first checkout having a computer-implemented full checkout module, a computer-implemented scan-only checkout module and a first scanner; said computer-implemented full checkout module being configured to permit a first employee to execute a first sales transaction at the first checkout; said computer-implemented scan-only checkout module being configured to allow the first employee to add one or more products to a second sales transaction occurring at the first checkout at substantially the same time that the first employee utilizes the full checkout module to execute the first sales transaction at the first checkout; said computer-implemented full checkout module being configured to add one or more products to the first sales transaction and receive payment for the first sales transaction and said computer-implemented scan-only checkout module being configured to add one or more products to the second sales transaction but not receive payment for the second sales transaction, said computer-implemented full checkout module and said computer-implemented scan-only checkout module being configured to use said first scanner of said first checkout to add one or more products to a corresponding transaction, said first checkout being configured such that said computer-implemented scan-only checkout module can only use said first scanner to add one or more products to the second sales transaction when said first scanner is released by said computer-implemented full checkout module and said first scanner being automatically released by said computer-implemented full checkout module for use by said computer-implemented scan-only checkout module upon a total portion of said first checkout being activated to total an amount owing for the first sales transaction; a checkout display being configured to present a scan-only graphical user interface while the computer-implemented scan-only checkout module adds the products to the second transaction, wherein the scan-only graphical user interface is associated with the computer-implemented scan-only checkout module and presents information associated with the products added to the second transaction; and, said first checkout having a transaction device configured to receive payment during the first transaction while the computer-implemented full checkout module executes the first transaction. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the computer-implemented full checkout module is configured to detect a first status change and determine whether the first status change is indicative of a session switch between the first sales transaction and the second sales transaction. 3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the computer-implemented full checkout module is configured to provide a message to the computer-implemented scan-only checkout module wherein the message is associated with the session switch. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein: the computer-implemented scan-only checkout module is configured to present a current status of the computer-implemented full checkout module in the scan-only graphical user interface. 5. The system of claim 1 , wherein said computer-implemented full checkout module is configured to use said first scanner of said first checkout to add one or more products to the first transaction. 6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the computer-implemented scan-only checkout module is further configured to receive an input that requests a switch to the computer-implemented full checkout module from the computer-implemented scan-only checkout module, wherein, based on the input, the checkout display is configured to remove the scan-only graphical user interface presented by the checkout display and present a full graphical user interface, wherein the full graphical user interface is associated with the full checkout module and presents information associated with the execution of the first sales transaction.
