Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Building panels, especially floor panels, which are provided with a locking system including several separate strip parts connected to the panel edge. A strip part, configured to lock panels horizontally and to be fixed to a panel edge, including a strip body with an inner part configured to be fixed under the panel edge and an outer part configured to extend outside the panel edge, wherein the inner part comprises a fixing element configured to lock the strip part to the panel edge in a horizontal direction, wherein the outer part including a locking protrusion, located above the strip body and configured to lock the strip part to the panel edge vertically and a locking element configured to lock the panels in a horizontal direction, and wherein the inner part includes a cavity formed in the strip body and located between the fixing element and the locking protrusion.

First claim

The invention claimed is: 1. A method to fix a plurality of strip parts to an edge of a panel, wherein each of the strip parts comprises a strip body that, in a fixed position of the strip part on the edge of the panel, extends inwardly from the edge of the panel and at a rear side of the panel, and is configured to lock the panel with an adjacent panel horizontally and to be fixed to the edge of the panel by essentially horizontal snapping, the method comprising: separating the strip parts from a strip blank that comprises at least two strip parts located side by side in at least two parallel rows of the strip blank; displacing the strip parts essentially vertically in front of a plurality of hammers; pressing and snapping the strip parts via the hammers to the edge of the panel by an essentially horizontal displacement; and moving the hammers, to perform the pressing and the snapping, one after another when the panel is displaced horizontally in relation to the hammers. 2. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising: displacing the strip parts vertically to a same level as the edge of the panel. 3. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising: guiding the strip parts via guiding rails that are separate from the strip parts. 4. The method according to claim 3 , wherein the guiding rails comprise upper guiding rails and lower guiding rails. 5. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising: arranging fixing elements provided in outer parts of the strip parts partly or completely in a fixing groove formed on a rear side of the edge of the panel. 6. The method according to claim 5 , further comprising: connecting the fixing elements into the fixing groove with a wheel that presses the fixing elements into the fixing groove. 7. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the fixing elements press against two opposite walls of the fixing groove. 8. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising: displacing at least one of the strip parts laterally in a direction of long edges of the panel. 9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the strip parts are flexible. 10. The method according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of an outer part of the strip parts and the edge of the panel comprises bevels or rounded sections. 11. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the strip body of each strip part is thinner at an outer portion of the strip part than at an inner portion of the strip part. 12. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the strip parts are attached to each other in said at least two parallel rows. 13. The method according to claim 1 , wherein a spacing between the strips parts that are attached to the edge of the panel corresponds to a time difference that a hammer action of the hammers is executed by a computer system. 14. The method according to claim 1 further comprising: guiding each of the strip parts by means of a locking extension provided on a locking element arranged at an outer part of the strip body. 15. The method according to claim 1 , wherein each strip part comprises a locking protrusion which is located above the strip body and which is configured to lock the strip part to the edge of the panel vertically and in a horizontal direction against a holding protrusion formed at the edge of the panel. 16. The method according to claim 15 , further comprising: at least one of bending and turning the strip body in relation to the locking protrusion. 17. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising: feeding and positioning the strip parts by means of a hammer groove provided on each of the plurality of hammers. 18. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said strip blank comprises a cavity between the at least two strip parts. 19. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the strip part has an inner part configured to be fixed under the edge of the panel and an outer part configured to extend outside the edge of the panel, the inner part comprises a fixing element configured to lock the strip part to the edge of the panel in a horizontal direction, and the outer part comprises a locking protrusion having a horizontal extension located above the strip body and extending in the horizontal direction, and configured to lock the strip part to the edge of the panel vertically, and the outer part comprises a locking element extending upward away from the strip body and which is directly connected to the horizontal extension of the locking protrusion and configured to lock the panels in the horizontal direction. 20. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the hammers press against a surface of the strip parts that faces away from the panel.
