Abstract

Leader devices usable with roll media and an image forming system having an output member are disclosed. A leader device may include a leader member having a first end and a second end. The first end may attach to the output member of the image forming system. The leader device may also include an attachment means disposed on the second end of the image forming system for removably attaching the leader member to a leading edge of the roll media.

First claim

What is claimed is:

1. A leader device usable with roll media and an image forming system having an output member, the leader device comprising:
a leader member having a first end to attach to the output member of the image forming system; and
a clip member couple to the leader member, the clip member to removably attach the leader member to the roll media in an installed state, the clip member comprising:
a first section having a first surface to contact a side surface of the roll media in an installed state and a second surface, the first surface having a gripping portion and the second surface opposite the first surface;
a second section having a first surface disposed across from the first surface of the first section to contact another side surface of the roll media in the installed state; and
a magnetic unit coupled to the second surface of the first section.

2. The leader device according to claim 1 , wherein the first surface of the second section includes a gripping portion, the first section being a lower section and the second section being an upper section.

3. The leader device according to claim 1 , wherein the
magnetic unit is to establish a magnetic field between and to attract the first section and the second section toward each other to grip the roll media in the installed state.

4. The leader device according to claim 1 , wherein the leader member further comprises:
a length extending in a media transport direction and a width perpendicular to the length such that the clip member extends across the width of the leader member.

5. The leader device according to claim 1 , wherein the leader member further comprises:
a third section disposed between the first section and the second section, the third section having an alignment surface to align a leading edge of the roll media in the installed state.

6. The leader device according to claim 5 , wherein the
clip member is to establish a magnetic field between and to attract the upper section and the lower section toward each other to grip the roll media in the installed state.

7. The leader device according to claim 5 , wherein the clip member further comprises:
an exterior surface including a first rounded corner and a second rounded corner;
the first rounded corner corresponds to a first intersection between the third section and the first section; and
the second rounded corner corresponds to a second intersection between the third section and the second section, wherein

the alignment surface comprises a wall member extending in a width-wise direction of the leading edge of the roll media to selectively contact the leading edge in response to the clip member being placed in an installed state.

8. A leader device usable with roll media and an image forming system having an output member, the leader device comprising:
a leader member having an first end to attach to the output member of the image forming system; and
a magnetic clip member coupled to the leader member, the magnetic clip member including:
an upper section including:
an upper contact surface to contact a side surface of the roll media, the upper contact surface including an upper gripping portion; and
an upper separation surface opposite the upper contact surface;

a lower section including a lower contact surface disposed across from the upper contact surface to contact another side surface of the roll media, the lower contact surface including a lower gripping portion; and
an intermediate section having an alignment surface to align a leading edge of the roll media; and

a magnetic unit coupled to the upper separation surface of the magnetic clip member;
wherein a magnetic field is established between and to attract the upper section and the lower section toward each other to grip the roll media.

9. The leader device according to claim 8 , wherein the leader member further comprises:
a length extending in a media transport direction and a width perpendicular to the length such that the magnetic clip member extends across the width of the leader member.

10. The leader device according to claim 9 , wherein the magnetic dip member further comprises:
an exterior surface including a first rounded corner and a second rounded corner;
the first rounded corner corresponding to an intersection between the intermediate section and the upper section; and
the second rounded corner corresponding to an intersection between the intermediate section and the lower section.

11. The leader device according to claim 10 , wherein:
the leader member includes plastic; and
the magnetic clip member is a single unitary and integral member.

12. The leader device according to claim 10 , wherein the upper gripping portion is a pad.

13. A leader device usable with roll media and an image forming system having an output member, the leader device comprising:
a leader member having:
a first end to attach to the output member of the image forming system; and
a length extending in a media transport direction; and
a width perpendicular to the length; and

a magnetic clip member coupled to the leader member, the magnetic clip member including:
a first section including a first contact surface to contact a side surface of the roll media, the first contact surface including a gripping portion;
a second section including a first contact surface disposed across from the first contact surface of the first section to contact another side surface of the roll media, the first contact surface of the second section including a gripping portion; and
a third section having an alignment surface to align a leading edge of the roll media;
an exterior surface including a first rounded corner and a second rounded corner, the first rounded corner corresponding to an intersection between the third section and the first section and the second rounded corner corresponding to an intersection between the third section and the second section; and
a magnetic unit coupled to the exterior surface of the magnetic clip member at the first section opposite the first contact surface,
wherein a magnetic field is established between and to attract the first section and the second section toward each other to grip the roll media.
