A disposable cellulosic wiper includes a percentage by weight of pulp-derived papermaking fibers, and from about 10% to about 75% by weight of fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers having a number average diameter of less than about 2 microns and a characteristic Canadian Standard Freeness (CSF) value of less than 175 ml.

First claim

We claim: 1. A disposable cellulosic wiper comprising: (a) a percentage by weight of pulp-derived papermaking fibers; and (b) from about 10% to about 75% by weight of fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers having a number average diameter of less than about 2 microns and a characteristic Canadian Standard Freeness (CSF) value of less than 175 ml. 2. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the percentage by weight of the pulp-derived papermaking fibers is 25% or more. 3. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper includes more than 25% by weight of the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers. 4. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper includes more than 30% by weight of the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers. 5. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper includes more than 35% by weight of the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers. 6. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper includes more than 40% by weight of the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers. 7. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers have a CSF value of less than 150 ml. 8. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers have a CSF value of less than 100 ml. 9. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers have a CSF value of less than 50 ml. 10. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers have a CSF value of less than 25 ml. 11. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers have a CSF value of less than 0 ml. 12. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has a basis weight of from about 5 lbs per 3,000 square foot ream to about 60 lbs per 3,000 square foot ream, and the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers have a weight average diameter of less than 2 microns and a weight average length of less than 500 microns. 13. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has a basis weight of from about 15 lbs per 3,000 square foot ream to about 35 lbs per 3,000 square foot ream, and the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers have a weight average diameter of less than 1 micron and a weight average length of less than 400 microns. 14. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has an absorbency of at least about 4 g/g. 15. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has an absorbency of at least about 4.5 g/g. 16. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has an absorbency of at least about 5 g/g. 17. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has an absorbency of at least about 7.5 g/g. 18. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has an absorbency of from about 6 g/g to about 9.5 g/g. 19. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers are prepared from fiber spun from a cellulosic dope comprising cellulose dissolved in a tertiary amine N-oxide, and have a weight average diameter of less than 2 microns and a weight average length of less than 500 microns. 20. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers are prepared from fiber spun from a cellulosic dope comprising cellulose dissolved in an ionic liquid, and have a weight average diameter of less than 1 micron and a weight average length of less than 400 microns. 21. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has a dry machine direction (MD) breaking length of from about 2 km to about 9 km, and the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers have a weight average diameter of less than 2 microns and a weight average length of less than 500 microns. 22. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has a cross machine direction (CD) wet breaking length of from about 400 m to about 3000 m, and the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers have a weight average diameter of less than 1 micron and a weight average length of less than 400 microns. 23. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has a wet/dry cross machine direction (CD) tensile ratio of between about 35% and about 60%. 24. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has a wet/dry cross machine direction (CD) tensile ratio of at least about 40%. 25. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has a wet/dry cross machine direction (CD) tensile ratio of at least about 45%. 26. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper further comprises a dry strength resin. 27. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 26 , wherein the dry strength resin is carboxylmethyl cellulose. 28. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper further comprises a wet strength resin. 29. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 28 , wherein the wet strength resin is a polyamidamine-epihalohydrin resin. 30. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has a machine direction (MD) break modulus of from about 50 g/3 in./% to about 400 g/3 in./%. 31. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper has a machine direction (MD) break modulus of from about 20 g/3 in./% to about 100 g/3 in./%. 32. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper comprises from about 30% by weight to about 75% by weight of the pulp-derived papermaking fibers and up to 70% by weight of the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers. 33. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper comprises from about 35 by weight to about 70% by weight of the pulp-derived papermaking fibers and from about 30% by weight to about 65% by weight of the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers. 34. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper comprises from about 40% by weight to about 60% by weight of the pulp-derived papermaking fibers and from about 40% by weight to about 60% by weight of the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers. 35. The disposable cellulosic wiper according to claim 1 , wherein the wiper contains kraft softwood fibers and the fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers. 36.
