We claim: 1. An apparatus comprising: a receiver that receives content modification data from a proximity-based device when the proximity-based device is placed within a proximity to the receiver; a memory that stores at least a portion of an original media content; and a processor that receives a user input via an interactive menu and modifies an appearance of an object in the portion of the original media content when the original media content is shown on a display by replacing a first feature of the appearance with a second feature according to the content modification data received from the proximity-based device and the user input. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the object is a costume of a character in the original media content. 3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the first feature is a first costume color and the second feature is a second costume color that is distinct from the first costume color. 4. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising an input device that receives the original media content. 5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the input device reads the original media content from a computer readable storage device. 6. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the input device receives the original media content from a communication network. 7. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a data storage device that stores the original media content. 8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the receiver is a Near Field Communication receiver. 9. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the proximity-based device is a Near Field Communication chip. 10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the original media content is a movie. 11. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the original media content is a video game. 12. A method comprising: receiving content modification data from a proximity-based device when the proximity-based device is placed within a proximity to the receiver; storing at least a portion of an original media content; and receiving a user input via an interactive menu and modifying an appearance of an object in the portion of the original media content when the original media content is shown on a display by replacing a first feature of the appearance with a second feature according to the content modification data received from the proximity-based device and the user input. 13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the object is a costume of a character in the original media content. 14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the first feature is a first costume color and the second feature is a second costume color that is distinct from the first costume color. 15. The method of claim 12 , wherein the proximity-based device is a Near Field Communication chip. 16. A computer program product comprising a computer readable storage device having a computer readable program stored thereon, wherein the computer readable program when executed on a computer causes the computer to: receive content modification data from a proximity-based device when the proximity-based device is placed within a proximity to the receiver; store at least a portion of an original media content; and receive a user input via an interactive menu and modify an appearance of an object in the portion of the original media content when the original media content is shown on a display by replacing a first feature of the appearance with a second feature according to the content modification data received from the proximity-based device and the user input. 17. The computer program product of claim 16 , wherein the object is a costume of a character in the original media content. 18. The computer program product of claim 17 , wherein the first feature is a first costume color and the second feature is a second costume color that is distinct from the first costume color. 19. The computer program product of claim 16 , wherein the original media content is a movie. 20. The computer program product of claim 16 , wherein the original media content is a video game.
