A method includes monitoring an activity stream to identify actions that match stored sponsored story specifications, for providing one or more sponsored stories to a viewing user. The sponsored story specifications include a visual specification for the sponsored story, and matched sponsored stories are ranked for a viewing user. Users can set privacy preferences related to sponsored stories. The ranking and privacy settings contribute to which sponsored stories are provided for display to the viewing user.

What is claimed is: 1. A non-transitory computer-readable memory storing a computer program executable by a processor, the computer program producing a user interface comprising: computer code for rendering a sponsored story area displaying story content, from an organic activity feed of stories in a social networking system, to be promoted as a sponsored story by a user of the social networking system; computer code for rendering a comment area displaying a text box capable of receiving a comment for inclusion in the sponsored story; and computer code for rendering a selectable sharing control for sharing the sponsored story by the user at a location within the social networking system, wherein selection of the sharing control creates the sponsored story from the story content and the comment. 2. The computer program of claim 1 , wherein the sponsored story comprises information about an interaction performed by the user, the interaction related to an entity. 3. The computer program of claim 2 , wherein the sponsored story further comprises a link associated with the entity. 4. The computer program of claim 2 , wherein the entity comprises a business, an individual, a television show, an application, or a physical location. 5. The computer program of claim 1 , wherein the sponsored story is shared on a profile page of the user. 6. The computer program of claim 1 , wherein the sponsored story is an advertisement. 7. The computer program of claim 1 , further comprising an executable process that shares the sponsored story by the user at the location within the social networking system. 8. A method comprising: rendering a sponsored story area displaying story content, from an organic activity feed of stories in a social networking system, to be promoted as a sponsored story by a user of the social networking system; rendering a comment area displaying a text box capable of receiving a comment for inclusion in the sponsored story; and rendering a selectable sharing control for sharing the sponsored story by the user at a location within the social networking system, wherein selection of the sharing control creates the sponsored story from the story content and the comment. 9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the sponsored story comprises information about an interaction performed by the user, the interaction related to an entity. 10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the sponsored story further comprises a link associated with the entity. 11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the entity comprises a business, an individual, a television show, an application, or a physical location. 12. The method of claim 8 , wherein the sponsored story is shared on a profile page of the user. 13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the sponsored story is an advertisement. 14. The method of claim 8 , further comprising an executable process that shares the sponsored story by the user at the location within the social networking system. 15. A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium containing computer program code for performing the steps: rendering a sponsored story area story content, from an organic activity feed of stories in a social networking system, to be promoted as a sponsored story by a user of the social networking system; rendering a comment area displaying a text box capable of receiving a comment for inclusion in the sponsored story; and rendering a selectable sharing control for sharing the sponsored story by the user at a location within the social networking system, wherein selection of the sharing control creates the sponsored story from the story content and the comment. 16. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the sponsored story comprises information about an interaction performed by the user, the interaction related to an entity. 17. The computer program product of claim 16 , wherein the sponsored story further comprises a link associated with the entity. 18. The computer program product of claim 16 , wherein the entity comprises a business, an individual, a television show, an application, or a physical location. 19. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the sponsored story is shared on a profile page of the user. 20. The computer program product of claim 15 , further comprising an executable process that shares the sponsored story by the user at the location within the social networking system.
