A component mounting apparatus for holding a rigid component in a downhole bore or a downhole collar based application includes a first body including first and second parallel spaced apart component holders disposed in a first common plane and a first support connecting the component holders together. The first and second parallel spaced apart component holders are operable to receive and grip a rigid component between the first and second parallel spaced apart component holders. Various component mounting assemblies and configurations may be realized using the component mounting apparatus described. The component mounting apparatus and various mounting assemblies may be used to mount a printed circuit board in a cylindrical enclosure or tubular housing, for example.

What is claimed is: 1. A component mounting apparatus for holding a rigid component in a downhole bore or downhole collar based application comprising: a first body comprising first and second parallel spaced apart component holders disposed in a first common plane and a first support connecting the component holders together, said first and second parallel spaced apart component holders operable to receive and grip a rigid component between said first and second parallel spaced apart component holders, wherein said first body further comprises first and second connecting interfaces on said first support or connected to said first support, the first and second connecting interfaces defining respective first and second planar contacting surfaces having first and second connectors respectively for connecting said first and second planar contacting surfaces in a contacting engagement to corresponding planar contacting surfaces of one or more similar component mounting apparatuses. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the first support includes a resilient portion operable to flex to permit said first and second component holders to be moved laterally relative to each other to receive and grip the rigid component between the first and second component holders. 3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said first support is spaced apart from said first common plane. 4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said first body is a unitary body. 5. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein said unitary body is formed from an electrically insulating material. 6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein said electrically insulating material includes a thermoplastic material. 7. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein said body is formed of an electrically conductive material. 8. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein said body is formed by laminating, machining, casting, extruding, injection molding or stamping. 9. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein said body is anodized. 10. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said first and second component holders include first and second elongated linear portions respectively. 11. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said first and second component holders have first and second receptacles for receiving and holding portions of said rigid component. 12. The apparatus of claim 11 further comprising first and second pluralities of spaced apart retainers on said first and second component holders respectively for retaining said portions of said rigid component in said first and second receptacles respectively. 13. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein said first and second pluralities of spaced apart retainers are integrally formed in said first and second component holders respectively. 14. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein each of said first and second component holders have a first end portion and a second end portion. 15. The apparatus of claim 14 wherein said first and second end portions of each of said first and second component holders extend outwardly beyond extremities of said first support. 16. The apparatus of claim 14 wherein said first end portions have shapes complementary to said second end portions to permit said first end portions of said first and second component holders to couple with second end portions of first and second component holders of a longitudinally adjacent similar component mounting apparatus. 17. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said first and second planar contacting surfaces are disposed at different angles to said first common plane. 18. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein said different angles are about +30 degrees, +45 degrees, +54 degrees, or +60 degrees and about −30 degrees, −45 degrees, −54 degrees, or −60 degrees respectively. 19. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein said different angles are from 0 degrees to +90 degrees and from 0 degrees to −90 degrees respectively. 20. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said first and second connecting interfaces each have at least one open mesh. 21. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said first and second connecting interfaces are rigid. 22. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said first and second connecting interfaces are integrally formed with said first and second parallel spaced apart component holders respectively. 23. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said first and second connectors are complementary connectors. 24. The apparatus of claim 23 wherein said first and second connectors are female and male connectors respectively. 25. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said first support comprises a connecting portion extending between said first and second connecting interfaces. 26. The apparatus of claim 25 wherein said connecting portion is flexible and resilient. 27. The apparatus of claim 25 wherein said connecting portion is rigid. 28. The apparatus of claim 25 wherein said connecting portion is curved. 29. The apparatus of claim 25 wherein said connecting portion includes a central vertex. 30. The apparatus of claim 25 wherein said connecting portion is planar. 31. The apparatus of claim 25 wherein said connecting portion includes at least one open mesh. 32. The component mounting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first support comprises an arc of 180 degrees, and wherein the first and second planar contacting surfaces are parallel to the common plane, such that, when the first and second planar contacting surfaces are connected in a contacting engagement to corresponding first and second planar contacting surfaces of a similar component mounting apparatus, a circular cavity is defined. 33. The component mounting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first support comprises an arc of 120 degrees, and wherein the first and second planar contacting surfaces are disposed at +30 and −30 degrees to the common plane, such that, when the first and second planar contacting surfaces are connected in a contacting engagement to corresponding planar contacting surfaces of two similar component mounting apparatuses, a circular cavity is defined. 34. The component mounting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first support comprises an arc of 90 degrees, and wherein the first and second planar contacting surfaces are disposed perpendicularly to the common plane, such that, when the first and second planar contacting surfaces are connected in a contacting engagement to corresponding planar contacting surfaces of two similar component mounting apparatuses, a portion of a circular cavity is defined. 35.
