Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A personal items network, comprising a plurality of items, each item having a wireless communications port for coupling in network with every other item, each item having a processor for determining if any other item in the network is no longer linked to the item, each item having an indicator for informing a user that an item has left the network, wherein a user may locate lost items. A method for locating lost personal items, comprising: linking at least two personal items together on a network; and depositing one or both of time and location information in an unlost item when one of the items is lost out of network.

What is claimed is: 1. An electronic device comprising: a network component for detecting when a distance between the electronic device and a first other electronic device of a plurality of other electronic devices satisfies a distance requirement; and a location component for detecting the location of the electronic device when the network component detects that the distance satisfies the distance requirement, wherein: one of the following is true: the network component is operative to communicate network information comprising the detected location of the electronic device and identification of the first other electronic device to a second other electronic device of the plurality of other electronic devices when the network component detects that the distance satisfies the distance requirement; and the electronic device further comprises a user interface operative to communicate user interface information comprising the detected location of the electronic device and identification of the first other electronic device to a user of the electronic device via the user interface of the electronic device when the network component detects that the distance satisfies the distance requirement. 2. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the communicated information is anonymous with respect to the identification of the electronic device. 3. The electronic device of claim 1 , further comprising a timing component for detecting the time at which the network component detects that the distance satisfies the distance requirement, wherein the communicated information further comprises the detected time. 4. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the network component comprises a Bluetooth microchip. 5. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the location component comprises a GPS receiver. 6. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the distance requirement is related to a threshold distance, and wherein the threshold distance is in a range between 50 feet and 100 feet. 7. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the network component is operative to communicate network information comprising the detected location of the electronic device and identification of the first other electronic device to a second other electronic device of the plurality of other electronic devices when the network component detects that the distance satisfies the distance requirement. 8. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the electronic device further comprises a user interface operative to communicate user interface information comprising the detected location of the electronic device and identification of the first other electronic device to a user of the electronic device via the user interface of the electronic device when the network component detects that the distance satisfies the distance requirement. 9. An electronic device comprising: a network component for detecting when a distance between the electronic device and a first other electronic device of a plurality of other electronic devices satisfies a distance requirement; and a location component for detecting the location of the electronic device when the network component detects that the distance satisfies the distance requirement, wherein: the network component communicates information comprising the detected location of the electronic device to a second other electronic device of the plurality of other electronic devices when the network component detects that the distance satisfies the distance requirement; and the distance requirement is a network distance based on a communication standard shared by the network component and the first other electronic device. 10. An electronic device comprising: a communication component for detecting when a communication state between the electronic device and a first other electronic device of a plurality of other electronic devices changes from a first communication state to a second communication state; and a timing component for detecting the time at which the communication component detects that the communication state changes from the first communication state to the second communication state, wherein: one of the following is true: the communication component is operative to communicate communication information comprising the detected time and identification of the first other electronic device to a second other electronic device of the plurality of other electronic devices when the communication component detects that the communication state changes from the first communication state to the second communication state; and the electronic device further comprises a user interface operative to communicate user interface information comprising the detected time and identification of the first other electronic device to a user of the electronic device via the user interface of the electronic device when the communication component detects that the communication state changes from the first communication state to the second communication state. 11. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein: the first communication state is one of communicatively connected and communicatively disconnected; and the second communication state is the other one of communicatively connected and communicatively disconnected. 12. The electronic device of claim 10 , further comprising a location component for detecting the location of the electronic device when the communication component detects that the communication state changes from the first communication state to the second communication state, wherein the communicated information further comprises the detected location of the electronic device. 13. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the communicated information is anonymous with respect to the identification of the electronic device. 14. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the communication component is operative to communicate communication information comprising the detected time and identification of the first other electronic device to a second other electronic device of the plurality of other electronic devices when the communication component detects that the communication state changes from the first communication state to the second communication state. 15. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the electronic device further comprises a user interface is operative to communicate user interface information comprising the detected time and identification of the first other electronic device to a user of the electronic device via the user interface of the electronic device when the communication component detects that the communication state changes from the first communication state to the second communication state. 16. A method comprising: determining with a first electronic device, using a wireless communication component of the first electronic device, when a relationship between the first electronic device and a second electronic device satisfies a requirement; and after determining when the relationship between the first electronic device and the second electronic device satisfies the requirement, providing output information from the first electronic device, wherein the output information is indicative of the identification of the second electronic device, and wherein the output information is also indicative of at least one of: the location of the first electronic device when the first electronic device determines that the relationship meets the requirement; and the time at which the first electronic device determines that the relationship meets the requirement.
