An implant includes a fixed bearing, a floating bearing, and a coupling member. The fixed bearing defines a generally first spherical articulating surface and a stop. The floating bearing includes a second spherical articulating surface and a planar articulating bearing surface. The coupling member defines a bearing surface that translates relative to the planar articulating bearing surface.

What is claimed is: 1. An implant comprising: a fixed bearing defining a first spherical articulating surface and a stop; a floating bearing having a second spherical articulating surface and a planar articulating bearing surface, the stop of the fixed bearing arranged to limit a range of motion of the first spherical articulating surface relative to the second spherical articulating surface; and a coupling member defining a bearing surface that translates relative to the planar articulating bearing surface, wherein the bearing surface is configured to be slidably coupled to the planar articulating bearing surface such that, upon implantation, the floating bearing is translatable between a first position to a second position. 2. The implant according to claim 1 , wherein the floating bearing has a surface configured to interface with the stop when a stem is rotated from a first non-contacting position to a contacting position, and wherein the stop applies a force to the floating bearing when the floating bearing is in the first position or the second position. 3. The implant according to claim 1 , wherein the floating bearing defines a first stop contact location which is a first distance from the planar articulating bearing surface and a second stop contact location a second distance from the planar articulating bearing surface, wherein the first and second distances are different. 4. The implant according to claim 1 , wherein the fixed bearing comprises an extended first spherical articulating surface, and wherein the stop is located on the extended first spherical articulating surface. 5. The implant according to claim 1 , wherein the first spherical articulating surface is convex and the second spherical articulating surface is concave. 6. The implant according to claim 1 , wherein the first spherical articulating surface is concave and the second spherical articulating surface is convex. 7. The implant according to claim 1 , wherein the implant is a hip implant. 8. An implant comprising: a stem; a coupling member supported by the stem and defining a first planar beating surface; a fixed bearing defining a first spherical articulating surface and a stop; and a floating bearing having a second spherical articulating surface and a second planar bearing surface, the second spherical articulating surface configured to mate with the first spherical articulating surface, the second planar bearing surface slidably coupled with the first planar bearing surface such that, upon implantation, the floating bearing is translatable from a first position to a second position relative to the stem, wherein the stop limits a range of motion of the first spherical articulating surface with respect to the second spherical articulating surface. 9. The implant according to claim 8 , wherein the floating bearing has a surface configured to interface with the stop when the stem is rotated from a first non-contacting position to a contacting position, and wherein the stop applies a force to the floating bearing when the floating bearing is in the first position or the second position. 10. The implant according to claim 8 , wherein the floating bearing defines a first stop contact location which is a first distance from the second planar bearing surface and a second stop contact location a second distance from the second planar bearing surface, wherein the first and second distances are different. 11. The implant according to claim 8 , wherein the fixed bearing comprises an extended first spherical articulating surface, and wherein the stop is located on the extended first spherical articulating surface. 12. The implant according to claim 8 , wherein the first spherical articulating surface is convex and the second spherical articulating surface is concave. 13. The implant according to claim 8 , wherein the first spherical articulating surface is concave and the second spherical articulating surface is convex. 14. The implant according to claim 8 , wherein the implant is a hip implant. 15. An implant comprising: a coupling member supported by a stem and defining a first planar bearing surface defining a slot; a fixed bearing defining a first spherical articulating surface and a stop; and a floating bearing having a second spherical articulating surface and a second planar bearing surface, the second spherical articulating surface configured to mate with the first spherical articulating surface; the second planar bearing surface defining a coupling portion slidably receivable by the slot of the coupling member such that, upon implantation, the floating bearing is translatable from a first position to a second position relative to the stem, wherein the stop of the fixed bearing is arranged to limit a range of motion of the first spherical articulating surface relative to the second spherical articulating surface. 16. The implant according to claim 15 , wherein the floating bearing has a surface configured to interface with the stop when the stem is rotated from a first non-contacting position to a contacting position, and wherein the stop applies a force to the floating bearing when the floating bearing is in the first position or the second position. 17. The implant according to claim 15 , wherein the floating bearing defines a first stop contact location which is a first distance from the second planar bearing surface and a second stop contact location a second distance from the second planar bearing surface, wherein the first and second distances are different. 18. The implant according to claim 15 , wherein the first spherical articulating surface is convex and the second spherical articulating surface is concave. 19. The implant according to claim 15 , wherein the implant is a hip implant.
