What is claimed is: 1. A circuit comprising: a control circuit having an input configured to receive a first current measurement signal from a current source comprising a first inductive storage element coupled between an input terminal and a first node, a capacitive storage element coupled between the first node and a second node, a second inductive storage element coupled between the second node and an output terminal, a switching element coupled between the first node and a reference node, a free-wheeling element coupled between the second node and the reference node, and a first current measurement circuit configured to generate the first current measurement signal based on at least one of a current through the switching element and a current through the free-wheeling element, the control circuit configured to control a current at the output terminal by: generating a periodic drive signal at a drive signal output configured to be coupled to a control node of the switching element, the periodic drive signal configured to switch on the switching element for an on-time and to switch off the switching element for an off-time in each switching cycle, and sampling the first current measurement signal at a sample time to obtain a discrete-time sample value in a first switching cycle, wherein the periodic drive signal for the switching element is generated in a subsequent switching cycle dependent on the discrete-time sample value sampled during the first switching cycle, wherein the periodic drive signal comprises a pulse width modulated drive signal having a duty cycle, the control circuit is configured to adjust the duty cycle dependent on the discrete-time sample value, and the control circuit is further configured to: calculate a mean value of a current through the second inductive storage element from at least two discrete-time sample values, compare the calculated mean value with a reference current value to produce a comparison result, and adjust the duty cycle based on the comparison result. 2. The circuit of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to increase the duty cycle when the calculated mean value is below the reference current value, and to decrease the duty cycle when the calculated mean value is above the reference current value. 3. The circuit of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to obtain discrete-time sample value in each subsequent first switching. 4. The circuit of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to sample the first current measurement signal during the on-time at a fixed time relative to a duration of the on-time. 5. The circuit of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to sample the first current measurement signal during the off-time at a fixed time relative to a duration of the off-time. 6. The circuit of claim 1 , wherein the first current measurement circuit is configured to measure a sum of the currents through the switching element and the free-wheeling element, the current source further comprises a second current measurement circuit configured to measure a current through the first inductive storage element and to provide a second current measurement signal which is dependent on the measured current through the first inductive storage element, and the control circuit is configured to generate a first difference signal representing the current through the second inductive storage element from the first and the second current measurement signals to compare the first difference signal representing the current through the second inductive storage element with a reference current value to produce a comparison result, and to generate the periodic drive signal dependent on the comparison result. 7. The circuit of claim 1 , further comprising the first current measurement circuit. 8. The circuit of claim 2 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to calculate a further mean value of a current through the first inductive storage element from the at least two discrete-time sample values, and to adjust the duty cycle based on the calculated further mean value. 9. The circuit of claim 4 , wherein the fixed time occurs in a middle of the on-time. 10. The circuit of claim 5 , wherein the fixed time occurs in a middle of the off-time. 11. The circuit of claim 6 , wherein the control circuit is configured to: generate a control signal dependent on a difference between the first current measurement signal, the second current measurement signal and the reference current value, and generate the periodic drive signal dependent on the control signal. 12. The circuit of claim 7 , further comprising the first inductive storage element, the second inductive storage element, the capacitive storage element, the switching element and the free-wheeling element. 13. The circuit of claim 11 , wherein the control circuit comprises a hysteretic controller configured to receive the control signal and to generate the periodic drive signal dependent on the control signal. 14. The circuit of claim 11 , wherein the control circuit comprises: a controller configured to receive the control signal and to generate a modified control signal; and a pulse width modulator configured to receive the modified control signal and to generate the periodic drive signal with a duty cycle that is dependent on the modified control signal. 15. The circuit of claim 14 , wherein the controller has a PI-characteristic. 16. A controlled current source comprising: a first inductor coupled between an input terminal and a first node; a capacitor coupled between the first node and a second node; a second inductive storage element coupled between the second node and an output terminal; a switch coupled between the first node and a reference node; a diode coupled between the second node and the reference node; a first current measurement circuit configured to generate a first current measurement signal based on at least one of a current through the switch and a current though the diode; a control circuit configured to control a current at the output terminal by: generating a periodic drive signal at a drive signal output configured to be coupled to a control node of the switch, the periodic drive signal configured to switch on the switch for an on-time and to switch off the switch for an off-time in each switching cycle, sampling the first current measurement signal at a sample time to obtain a discrete-time sample value in a first switching cycle, wherein the periodic drive signal for the switch is generated in a subsequent switching cycle dependent on the discrete-time sample value sampled during the first switching cycle; a second current measurement circuit configured to generate a second current measurement signal based on a current through the first inductor; a first subtraction circuit configured to subtract the second current measurement signal from the first current measurement signal to form a third current measurement signal representing the current at the output terminal; and a second subtraction circuit configured to subtract a current reference signal from the third current measurement signal to form an error signal, wherein the periodic drive signal is based on the error signal. 17. A method for operating a circuit comprising a first inductive storage element coupled between an input terminal and a first node, a capacitive storage element coupled between the first node and a second node, a second inductive storage element coupled between the second node an
