Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A transport system has a dedicated trailer for transporting a small transport reel (i.e., <18-ft in diameter) of continuous rod to the field. The trailer has a pedestal that can pivot the reel. A hub motor on the pedestal can turn the reel, and a transfer unit and rod bender on the trailer can curve or straighten the rod when being fed into or out of the reel. A power and hydraulic system operates the various hydraulic components on the trailer. In other aspects, the transport system includes stands that can hold the small transport reels on a trailer within a defined transport envelope. When empty, these stands can be stacked on top of one another on the trailer for return to a facility.

What is claimed is: 1. A system for transporting continuous rod, the system comprising: a reel for holding the continuous rod coilable about a center of the reel, the reel defining a diameter less than or equal to approximately 168-in; and a transport comprising a stand supporting the reel thereon at an angle within a transport space limited by a height less than or equal to 137-in and a width less than or equal to 96-in. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the stand comprises at least one shelf extending from an angled wall and supporting the reel thereon. 3. A system for transporting continuous rod, the system comprising: a reel for holding the continuous rod coilable about a center of the reel, the reel defining a diameter less than 216-in; and a transport comprising a stand supporting the reel at an angle thereon within a transport space limited by a height and a width, wherein the stand comprises: a base; a platform pivotably connected to the base and supporting the reel thereon; at least one support removably disposing between the platform and the base and holding the platform to support the reel at the angle relative to the base; and a plurality of arms connected to the platform and pivotable inward to the platform around an edge of the reel. 4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the platform is collapsable against the base, and wherein the arms are pivotable outward from the platform. 5. The system of claim 3 , wherein ends of the arms affix to one another across the reel supported on the platform. 6. The system of claim 3 , wherein the platform comprises a mount to which a hub of the reel affixes. 7. The system of claim 3 , wherein the transport further comprises a trailer supporting the stand having the reel. 8. The system of claim 7 , comprising a plurality of the stand each having one of a plurality of the reel and being transportable with the trailer. 9. The system of claim 7 , comprising a plurality of the stand without one of a plurality of the reel being stackable on one another and being transportable with the trailer. 10. The system of claim 3 , wherein the diameter of the reel is equal to or less than approximately 168-in, and wherein the stand supports the reel thereon within the transport space limited by the height less than or equal to 137-in and the width less than or equal to 96-in. 11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the transport further comprises a flat rack container supporting the stand having the reel. 12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the reel comprises a cage for holding the continuous rod and comprises a removable hub for rotating the cage, the removable hub being positionable in the center of the reel and being removably attachable to the cage. 13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the cage is transportable on the transport without the removable hub. 14. The system of claim 1 , wherein the transport comprises a trailer supporting the reel within the transport space. 15. A system for transporting continuous rod, the system comprising: a reel for holding the continuous rod coilable about a center of the reel, the reel defining a diameter less than 216-in; and a transport supporting the reel within a transport space limited by a height and a width, wherein the transport has a transport surface and comprises: a base disposing on the transport surface; a platform pivotably connected to the base and supporting the reel for the continuous rod thereon; at least one support removably disposing between the platform and the base and holding the platform at an angle relative to the base; and a plurality of arms connected to the platform and pivotable inward to the platform around an edge of the reel. 16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the platform is collapsable against the base, and wherein the arms are pivotable outward from the platform. 17. The system of claim 15 , wherein ends of the arms affix to one another across the reel supported on the platform. 18. The system of claim 15 , wherein the platform comprises a mount to which a hub of the reel affixes. 19. The system of claim 15 , wherein the base and the platform form a stand for supporting the reel, and wherein the transport comprises a trailer having a bed as the transport surface such that the stand is transportable with the trailer. 20. The system of claim 19 , comprising a plurality of the stand each having one of a plurality of the reel and being transportable with the trailer. 21. The system of claim 19 , comprising a plurality of the stand each without one of a plurality of the reel, the stands being stackable on one another and being transportable with the trailer. 22. The system of claim 15 , wherein the diameter of the reel is less than or equal to approximately 168-in; and wherein the system supports the reel within the transport space limited by the height less than or equal to 137-in and the width less than or equal to 96-in. 23. The system of claim 15 , wherein the transport further comprises a flat rack container supporting the base and the platform. 24. The system of claim 15 , wherein the reel comprises a cage for holding the continuous rod and comprises a removable hub for rotating the cage, the removable hub being positionable in the center of the reel and being removably attachable to the cage. 25. The system of claim 24 , wherein the cage is transportable on the transport without the removable hub. 26. The system of claim 15 , wherein the transport comprises a trailer supporting the reel within the transport space. 27. The system of claim 3 , wherein the transport further comprises a flat rack container supporting the stand. 28. The system of claim 3 , wherein the reel comprises a cage for holding the continuous rod and comprises a removable hub for rotating the cage, the removable hub being positionable in the center of the reel and being removably attachable to the cage. 29. The system of claim 28 , wherein the cage is transportable on the transport without the removable hub. 30. The system of claim 3 , wherein the transport comprises a trailer supporting the reel within the transport space.
