Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

In some embodiments, an apparatus comprises of a first Control And Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) module implemented in at least one of a memory or a processing device that is configured to be designated as a backup control module for a wireless access point during a first time period. The first CAPWAP control module is configured to receive state information associated with the wireless access point during the first time period from a second CAPWAP control module. The second CAPWAP control module is designated as a primary control module for the wireless access point during the first time period. The first CAPWAP control module is configured to be automatically designated as the primary control module during a second time period after the first time period and in response to the second CAPWAP control module not operating according to at least one predefined criterion.

What is claimed is: 1. An apparatus, comprising: an access point controller implemented in at least one of a memory or a processor, the access point controller configured to receive a first control packet from a wireless access point via a first channel having a first priority, the access point controller configured to receive a second control packet from the wireless access point via a second channel having a second priority different than the first priority, the access point controller configured to send, in response to the first control packet, a third control packet to the wireless access point via the first channel such that the wireless access point receives the third control packet within a period of time after the third control packet is sent, the access point controller configured to send, in response to the second control packet, a fourth control packet to the wireless access point via the second channel such that the wireless access point receives the fourth control packet within a period of time after the fourth control packet is sent, the period of time after the third control packet is sent being shorter than the period of time after the fourth control packet is sent based on the first channel having the first priority and the second channel having the second priority. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first control packet is at least one of a session management packet, an image management packet, a statistic collection packet, or a logging packet. 3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first channel is at least one of a session management channel, an image management channel, a statistic collection channel, or a logging channel. 4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the access point controller is configured to send the third control packet via the first channel based on a type associated with the first control packet. 5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the access point controller is configured to encrypt the third control packet based on the third control packet being associated with a first type and prior to sending the third control packet to the wireless access point, the access point controller configured to not encrypt the fourth control packet based on the fourth control packet being associated with a second type different than the first type. 6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the access point controller is configured to determine at least one parameter associated with the wireless access point based at least in part on the first control packet or the second control packet, the access point controller configured to process a data packet based on the at least one parameter. 7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the third control packet includes a Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) header portion specific to a type of the third control packet and not specific to a CAPWAP binding. 8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the access point controller is a Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) controller. 9. An apparatus, comprising: a memory; and a processor operatively coupled to the memory, the processor configured to implement a Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) access point controller, the CAPWAP access point controller configured to at least partially control a wireless access point, the CAPWAP access point controller configured to encrypt a control packet having a first type based on the control packet having the first type being associated with the first type, the CAPWAP access point controller configured to send, to the wireless access point via a channel having a first priority, the control packet having the first type, the control packet having the first type includes a CAPWAP header portion specific to the first type, the CAPWAP access point controller configured to receive, from the wireless access point via a channel having a second priority different from the first priority, a control packet having a second type, the CAPWAP access point controller configured to not encrypt the control packet having the second type based on the control packet having the second type being associated with the second type. 10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the control packet having the first type is at least one of a session management packet, an image management packet, a statistic collection packet, or a logging packet. 11. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the channel having the first priority is at least one of a session management channel, an image management channel, a statistic collection channel, or a logging channel. 12. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the channel having the first priority is implemented as a tunnel between the CAPWAP access point controller and the wireless access point. 13. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the CAPWAP header portion is not specific to a CAPWAP binding. 14. A method, comprising: receiving, at an access point controller and from a wireless access point, a first signal, the first signal associated with establishing a first channel between the access point controller and the wireless access point; establishing, at the access point controller and based on the first signal, at least a portion of the first channel, the first channel having a first priority; receiving, at the access point controller and from the wireless access point, a second signal, the second signal associated with establishing a second channel between the access point controller and the wireless access point; establishing, at the access point controller and based on the second signal, at least a portion of the second channel, the second channel having a second priority different from the first priority; sending, from the access point controller to the wireless access point via the first channel, a first control packet such that the wireless access point receives the first control packet within a period of time after the first control packet is sent; and sending, to the wireless access point via the second channel, a second control packet such that the wireless access point receives the second control packet within a period of time after the second control packet is sent, the period of time after the first control packet is sent being shorter than the period of time after the second control packet is sent based on the first channel having the first priority and the second channel having the second priority. 15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the access point controller is a Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) controller. 16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the first control packet includes a Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) header portion specific to the first type and not specific to a CAPWAP binding. 17. The method of claim 14 , wherein the first control packet is at least one of a session management packet, an image management packet, a statistic collection packet, or a logging packet. 18. The method of claim 14 , wherein the first channel is at least one of a session management channel, an image management channel, a statistic collection channel, or a logging channel. 19. The method of claim 14 , wherein the first channel is implemented as a tunnel between the access point controller and the wireless access point.
