Official abstract text for this publication.
Devices and methods use an Extended PAN Identification (EPID) of a mesh network (e.g., ZigBee) to include in the EPID a network information, a network channel information (e.g., 802.15.4 channel), and/or other data. The devices and methods allows a node to use the EPID to identify a desired network to join and join the network on the predetermined channel for that network.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for storing network information to an Extended PAN Identification (EPID) data of a network beacon, the method comprising: prior to powering up a computer readable memory, presetting a unique network identifier for a network by using a hardware component that is connected to the computer readable memory; and upon powering up the computer readable memory, storing to the computer readable memory the EPID data, wherein the EPID data includes the unique network identifier, and a channel identifier for the network. 2. The method as in claim 1 , wherein the unique network identifier includes organizationally unique identifier (OUI). 3. The method as in claim 2 , wherein the organizationally unique identifier (OUI) is in bit 40 - 63 of a 64-bit format. 4. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising: presetting the channel identifier for the network by using the hardware component prior to powering up the computer readable memory; and the EPID data further including the channel identifier for the network. 5. A method for storing network information to an Extended PAN Identification (EPID) data of a network beacon, the method comprising: prior to powering up a computer readable memory, presetting a channel identifier for a network by using a hardware component which includes a rotary dial connected to the computer readable memory; and upon powering up the computer readable memory, storing to the computer readable memory the EPID data, wherein the EPID data includes the channel identifier for the network. 6. A computer readable memory for a wireless mesh network device, comprising: an Extended PAN Identification (EPID) data which includes a unique network identifier, and a channel identifier for a network, wherein the unique network identifier is preset by a hardware component which includes a rotary dial connected to the computer readable memory prior to powering up the computer readable memory. 7. The computer readable memory as in claim 6 , wherein the unique network identifier includes organizationally unique identifier (OUI). 8. The computer readable memory as in claim 7 , wherein the organizationally unique identifier (OUI) is in bit 40 - 63 of a 64-bit format. 9. A network device, comprising: the computer-readable memory according to claim 7 ; and the hardware component including the rotary dial for presetting the unique network identifier. 10. A mesh network, comprising: the network connected device according to claim 9 . 11. A network device, comprising: the computer-readable memory according to claim 6 ; and the hardware component including the rotary dial for presetting the unique network identifier prior to powering up the computer readable memory. 12. A mesh network, comprising: the network device according to claim 11 . 13. A network device, comprising: the computer-readable memory according to claim 8 ; and the hardware component including the rotary dial for presetting the unique network identifier. 14. A mesh network, comprising: the network connected device according to claim 13 . 15. A network device, comprising: a computer readable memory for storing an Extended PAN Identification (EPID) data which includes a preset channel identifier for a network; and a hardware component including a rotary dial connected to the computer readable memory having the preset channel identifier for the network prior to powering up the computer readable memory, wherein when the computer readable memory is powered up, the preset channel identifier is communicated to the computer readable memory so that the preset channel identifier is stored in the computer readable memory as a part of the EPID data. 16. A mesh network, comprising: the network connected device according to claim 15 .
