Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The present invention provides group performance monitoring systems and methods. In one exemplary embodiment, a group monitoring device includes a display configured to display, during an athletic activity, a plurality of individual performance metrics relating to a plurality of individuals engaged in the athletic activity, each individual performance metric relating to one of the plurality of individuals; and an input to manipulate the display.

What is claimed is: 1. A group monitoring system, comprising: a group monitoring device; and a plurality of individual monitors, each including a position sensor, and each configured to send data indicating its own location wirelessly to the group monitoring device, wherein the group monitoring device includes a display configured to display a location component showing a representation of the locations of the individual monitors on a playing field during an athletic activity in which the individual monitors are coupled to individuals engaged in the athletic activity, wherein the representation is based on the data from the individual monitors, and wherein the location component includes a heat map that provides a visual indication of concentrations of individual monitors on the playing field at a particular time during the athletic activity. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the heat map depicts areas of higher concentrations of individuals with different colors than colors with which it depicts areas of lower concentrations of individuals. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the location component provides information relating to redistributing the individuals. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the individuals are redistributed based on the representation of the locations of the individual monitors. 5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the location component shows a representation of each location of each individual monitor separately. 6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the location component shows a representation of each location of each individual monitor by showing identifying numbers at locations on a representation of the playing field corresponding to locations of the individual monitors on the playing field. 7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the location component shows a representation of each location of each individual monitor by showing photographs at locations on a representation of the playing field corresponding to locations of the individual monitors on the playing field. 8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the location component shows a representation of each location of each individual monitor separately, and wherein the location component shows information about a selected individual monitor in response to a user selecting the representation of the selected individual monitor. 9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the representation of the locations is a representation of present locations of the individual monitors. 10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the representation of the locations is a representation of past locations of the individual monitors. 11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display is configured to display, simultaneously with the location component, physiological data of at least one individual wearing an individual monitor. 12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display is configured to display, simultaneously with the location component, a tool for selecting a metric, and wherein the display is configured to display, simultaneously with the location component, a representation of a selected metric for at least one individual wearing an individual monitor. 13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display is configured to display, simultaneously with the location component, a tool for selecting a metric, wherein the display is configured to display, simultaneously with the location component, a representation of a selected metric for at least one individual wearing an individual monitor, and wherein the representation of the selected metric is displayed on the location component in association with a representation of the location of the individual. 14. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display is configured to display, simultaneously with the location component, a session timeline of the athletic activity. 15. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display is configured to display, simultaneously with the location component, a session timeline of the athletic activity, wherein the session timeline includes a marker identifying an event within the athletic activity. 16. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display is configured to display the location component during the athletic activity. 17. The system of claim 1 , wherein the each individual monitor is configured to send the data wirelessly to a base station, and wherein the group monitoring device is configured to receive the data from the base station. 18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the position sensor determines position data based on communication with a satellite-based positioning system. 19. The system of claim 1 , wherein the position sensor determines position data based on communication with a beacon system. 20. A group monitoring system, comprising: a plurality of individual monitors, each including a position sensor, and each configured to send data indicating its own location wirelessly to a group monitoring device; and the group monitoring device, wherein the group monitoring device includes a display configured to display a location component showing a representation of the locations of the individual monitors on a playing field during an athletic activity in which the individual monitors are coupled to individuals engaged in the athletic activity, wherein the representation is based on the data from the individual monitors, and wherein the location component includes a visual indication of concentrations of individual monitors on the playing field and a representation of each location of each individual monitor separately overlaid on the visual indication.
