Improved systems and methods for delivering CATV content over a fiber optic network from a transmitter.
Opening claim text (preview).
The invention claimed is: 1. A system for delivering cable television (CATV) content between a head end and a node over a fiber optic network, said method comprising: (a) a first transmitter for generating an analog first signal comprising CATV content; (b) a second transmitter for generating a digital second signal comprising a series of digital codewords each representing an instantaneous power level of a radio frequency (RF) spectrum input to the second transmitter, wherein the RF spectrum is a composite RF spectrum comprising a combination of CATV content and the instantaneous power levels are power levels of the composite RF spectrum at intervals of a conversion clock; (c) a combiner configured to combine each of the analog first signal and the digital second signal for transmission over a same fiber extending to at least one node, wherein the first signal is transmitted at a first optical wavelength and the second signal is transmitted a second optical wavelength that is different than the first optical wavelength; and (d) at least one receiver in said transmission network at a location remote from said transmitters, that receives said analog first signal and said digital second signal, converts each of said first signal and said second signal into respective RF spectrums, combines the RF spectrums, and delivers said combined CATV content represented by said first signal and said second signal to at least one user. 2. The system of claim 1 where at least one of said first signal and said second signal is modulated to contain a plurality of CATV content. 3. The system of claim 1 including a first receiver that processes said first signal and a second receiver that processes said second signal. 4. The system of claim 3 where said first receiver and said second receiver are co-located in one of anode and a hub. 5. The system of claim 3 where said first receiver and said second receiver are remote from each other. 6. The system of claim 1 where said first signal and said second signal are combined together on a modulated signal transmitted over a single trunk fiber cable. 7. The system of claim 6 including: (a) a first receiver that receives said modulated signal and processes it to separate said first signal from said second signal, and processes said first signal to deliver said CATV content represented by said first signal to at least one user; and (b) a second receiver that processes said second signal to deliver said CATV content represented by said first signal to at least one user. 8. The system of claim 7 where said second receiver receives said modulated signal and processes it to separate said first signal from said second signal. 9. The system of claim 7 where said second receiver receives said second signal and is free from receiving said first signal. 10. A system comprising: (a) at least one first receiver, each having a first input that receives an analog first signal representative of a first radio frequency (RF) spectrum of CATV content end and a plurality of first outputs that propagate respective analog second signals each representative of a subset of said first RF spectrum of CATV content, wherein the analog first signal is received as an analog signal at a first optical wavelength; (b) at least one second receiver, each having a second input that receives a digital third signal representative of a second RF spectrum of CATV content and a plurality of second outputs that propagate respective analog second signals each representative of a subset of said second RF spectrum of CATV content, wherein the digital third signal is received as a series of digital codewords each representing an instantaneous power level of the second RF spectrum of CATV content at a second optical wavelength that is different than the first optical wavelength, the second RF spectrum being a composite RF spectrum comprising a combination of CATV content, the instantaneous power levels being power levels of the composite RF spectrum generated at intervals of a conversion clock; wherein the plurality of analog second signals are converted in to their respective RF spectrum, the RF spectrums combined for transmission to at least one user. 11. The system of claim 10 where a first receiver, of said at least one first receiver, and a second receiver, of said at least one second receiver, are located at respective locations remote from each other. 12. The system of claim 10 where a first receiver, of said at least one first receiver, and a second receiver, of said at least one second receiver, are co-located in at least one of a hub and a node. 13. The system of claim 12 where said first receiver receives said analog first signal from at least one of a first head end and a first hub, and said second receiver receives said digital third signal from at least one of a second bead end and a second hub. 14. The system of claim 12 where said first receiver receives said first signal, and said second receiver receives said third signal, from the same head end. 15. The system of claim 14 having a demultiplexer that separates said first signal from said third signal. 16. The system of claim 14 having an RF combiner and an RF splitter.
