Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The present invention is generally related to a device and method for sanitizing a medical instrument with ozone, in particular the invention relates to a system, method and a device for sanitizing a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device. The device has an ozone compartment, an ozone operating system and one or more ozone distribution lines that distribute ozone to a continuous positive airway pressure device. The device may further include a heater adapter unit to connect heating systems in CPAP devices while distributing ozone to sanitize the CPAP device in accordance with the present invention.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A connector unit for a medical instrument comprising: a first end connected to a proximal end of a passageway with a gas environment in the medical instrument; a second end connected to an enclosed space; an outer wall between the first end and the second end; and a distribution line traversing the outer wall with a free end fluid communication with the passageway of the medical instrument for distributing ozone gas into the passageway of the medical instrument. 2. The connector unit in accordance with claim 1 further comprising an exhaust port connected at the distal end of the passageway with the gas environment in the medical instrument. 3. The connector unit in accordance with claim 1 further comprising an ozone sensor for sensing ozone gas in the passageway with the gas environment in the medical instrument attached to the connector unit. 4. The connector unit in accordance with claim 1 further comprising an ozone operating system connected to the distribution line. 5. The connector unit in accordance with claim 1 further comprising a heating element adapter unit. 6. A system comprising: a connector unit and an ozone device, wherein the connector unit connects the ozone device having an ozone operating system to a medical instrument having an inner cavity, the connector unit comprising: a first end connected to a proximal end of the inner cavity of the medical instrument; a second end connected with a gas-tight closure; an outer wall between the first end and the second end; and a distribution line connected to the ozone operating system, the distribution line traversing the outer wall of the connector unit with a free end in fluid communication with the inner cavity of the medical instrument for distributing ozone into the inner cavity of the medical instrument. 7. The system in accordance with claim 6 further comprising an ozone sensor for sensing ozone gas in the medical device attached to the connector unit. 8. The system in accordance with claim 6 further comprising a heating element adapter unit attached to the connector unit. 9. A system comprising: a continuous positive airway pressure connector unit and an ozone device, wherein the continuous positive airway pressure connector unit connects the ozone device having an ozone operating system to a continuous positive airway pressure device having a hose and a water reservoir, the continuous positive airway pressure connector unit comprising: a first end connected to the hose; a second end connected to the water reservoir; an outer wall between the first end and the second end; and, a distribution line connected to the ozone operating system, the distribution line traversing the wall with a free end immersed in the water reservoir. 10. The system in accordance with claim 9 further comprising a sensor for sensing ozone gas. 11. The system in accordance with claim 9 further comprising a heating element adapter unit, wherein a heating element adapter unit connects a heating element to a continuous positive airway connector unit.
