Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A diffuser for a lighting device comprises a diffuser region, a hook element and a nose element. A light fixture comprises a housing with an opening and a diffuser as described above, in which the nose element extends through the opening, optionally further comprising an accessory including at least one spring element engaging the hook element. A light fixture structure comprises a housing defining an opening and an first attachment element comprising a nose element, a hook element and a connection region, and optionally further comprising a diffuser engaging a first portion of the hook element, and/or an accessory which engages a second portion of the hook element. An eyeball accessory comprises first and second housing elements pivotably attached to each other. An accessory for a light fixture comprises a housing member and a spring element engageable with a fixture.

First claim

The invention claimed is: 1. A light fixture, comprising: a light engine housing, said light engine housing defining at least a first opening; and a diffuser, said diffuser comprising a diffuser region, at least a first nose element and a first connection region, said first connection region attached to said diffuser region, said first nose element attached to said first connection region, said nose element extending farther in a first direction than said first connection region extends in said first direction, said first direction perpendicular to a first axis which passes through at least a portion of each of said first nose element and said first connection region, said first nose element on a first side of said first opening, said diffuser region on a second side of said first opening, said first side of said first opening opposite said second side of said first opening relative to said first opening, at least a portion of said first connection region in said first opening, said nose element of a shape that inhibits said nose element from passing from said first side of said opening to said second side of said opening, wherein if light passes through said diffuser region, said light would be diffused by passing through said diffuser region. 2. A light fixture as recited in claim 1 , wherein a major dimension of said diffuser region extends in a first plane, said first plane perpendicular to said first axis. 3. A light fixture as recited in claim 1 , wherein a surface of said diffuser region is substantially circular. 4. A light fixture as recited in claim 1 , wherein said diffuser further comprises a second nose element, a second connection region, a third nose element and a third connection region, said second connection region extending from said diffuser region to said second nose element, said third connection region extending from said diffuser region to said third nose element. 5. A light fixture as recited in claim 4 , wherein: a major dimension of said diffuser region extends in a first plane, said first plane perpendicular to said first axis, a periphery of said diffuser region is substantially circular, and said first connection region, said second connection region and said third connection region are substantially equally spaced around said periphery of said diffuser region. 6. A light fixture as recited in claim 5 , wherein: said diffuser comprises at least a first obscuration region, said first obscuration region comprising a region of said diffuser in which a thickness of said diffuser differs from a thickness of said diffuser in a region of said diffuser adjacent to said first obscuration region, said first obscuration region located relative to said first opening such that at least some light that passes through said first opening is incident upon said first obscuration region. 7. A light fixture as recited in claim 6 , wherein said first obscuration region is a portion of said diffuser that has a thickness that is less than a thickness of said diffuser region. 8. A light fixture as recited in claim 7 , wherein said diffuser is circular and said first obscuration region comprises a circular channel, said circular channel substantially concentric with said circular diffuser. 9. A light fixture as recited in claim 8 , wherein said first connection region is on a first side of said diffuser and said first obscuration region is on a second side of said diffuser. 10. A light fixture as recited in claim 9 , wherein: said housing comprises at least a first housing region, a second housing region and a third housing region, a first surface of said second housing region in a first cross-sectional plane defining a first angle relative to said first axis, said first housing region extends in said first cross-sectional plane from a first portion of said first housing region in a shape or direction that does not define an angle relative to said first axis that is equal to said first angle, and said third housing region extends in said first cross-sectional plane from a second portion of said first housing region in a shape or direction that does not define an angle relative to said first axis that is equal to said first angle. 11. A light fixture as recited in claim 10 , wherein said first surface of said second housing region in said first cross-sectional plane is substantially parallel to or coplanar with a first surface of said diffuser region. 12. A light fixture as recited in claim 11 , wherein an axis of said first opening is substantially perpendicular to said first surface of said second housing region in said first cross-sectional plane. 13. A light fixture as recited in claim 1 , wherein: said diffuser further comprises a hook element and a fourth connection region, said fourth connection region is attached to said diffuser region, said hook element is attached to said fourth connection region, at least a portion of said hook element extends farther in a second direction than said fourth connection region extends in said second direction, and said second direction is perpendicular to a second axis which passes through at least a portion of each of said hook element and said fourth connection region. 14. A light fixture as recited in claim 13 , wherein said hook element extends around an entire periphery of said diffuser. 15. A light fixture as recited in claim 14 , wherein said periphery is substantially circular. 16. A light fixture as recited in claim 1 , wherein said first connection region extends from said diffuser region to said first nose element. 17. A light fixture as recited in claim 1 , wherein said first connection region is attached directly to said diffuser region, and said first nose element is attached directly to said first connection region. 18. A light fixture as recited in claim 1 , wherein said first axis is parallel to a center axis of said diffuser. 19. A light fixture as recited in claim 1 , wherein: said nose element is attached to a first end of said first connection region, said diffuser is attached to a second end of said first connection region, and said first end and said second end are on opposite ends of said first connection region. 20. A light fixture, comprising: a light engine housing, said light engine housing comprising at least a first aperture extending through the light engine housing from a first opening on a front side of engine housing to a second opening on a rear side of the light engine housing; and a diffuser, said diffuser comprising a diffuser region, at least a first connection region, at least a first nose element, and at least a first obscuration region, said first connection region extends through an entirety of the first aperture, said diffuser region is inside a region defined by the front side of the light engine housing, said first nose element is on the rear side of the light engine housing, opposite the light engine housing with respect to the diffuser region, said first obscuration region comprising a region of said diffuser in which a thickness of said diffuser differs from a thickness of said diffuser in a region of said diffuser adjacent to said first obscuration region, said first obscuration region located relative to said first aperture such that at least some light that passes through said first aperture is incident upon said first obscuration region, wherein if light passes through said diffuser region, said light would be diffused by passing through said diffuser region.
