Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A storage bag is provide with features that facilitate unsealing an opening of the bag, including shaped lips and visual cues for areas that the lips that should be grasped during the unsealing process. The visual cue may include relative coloring of portions of the lips of the bag. The storage bag also includes features that facilitate sealing the opening of the bag, including textured areas and dimples. Such features may provide visual cues, tactile feedback and/or audio feedback in order to facilitate the sealing process.

We claim: 1. A storage bag comprising: a first side surface; a second side surface connected to the first side surface so as to form an interior of the bag with an opening to the interior; a first closure profile connected to the first side surface and positioned adjacent to the opening of the bag, the first closure profile having a top edge and including a first interlocking member and a second interlocking member that both extend between a first side of the first closure profile and a second side of the first closure profile, the first closure profile further including a plurality of dimples provided in an area between the first and second interlocking members of the first closure profile, the dimples being formed as a first shape, the first closure profile forming a lip between the interlocking members and the top edge of the first closure profile, with the lip (a) comprising a single, continuous web extending a substantially constant distance H1 (i) from the interlocking members to the top edge of the first closure profile and (ii) between the first side of the first closure profile and the second side of the first closure profile, and (b) being a first color on both an inner surface and an outer surface of the lip, the first closure profile being free from the first color in the area between the first and second interlocking members of the first closure profile; and a second closure profile connected to the second side surface and positioned adjacent to the opening of the bag, the second closure profile having a top edge and including a first interlocking member and a second interlocking member that both extend between a first side of the second closure profile and a second side of the second closure profile, the second closure profile further including a plurality of dimples provided in an area between the first and second interlocking members of the second closure profile, the dimples being formed as a second shape that differs from the first shape, the second closure profile forming a lip between the interlocking members and the top edge of the second closure profile, with both an inner surface and an outer surface of the lip being one of (i) a different shade of the first color and (ii) a second color, such that the lip of the second closure profile is visually distinguishable from the lip of the first closure profile, the second closure profile being configured such that the lip comprises a single, continuous web (a) between the first side of the second closure profile and the second side of the second closure profile, and (b) from the interlocking members to the top edge of the second closure profile, with the single, continuous web defining (i) a first portion of the lip extending a substantially constant distance H2 from the interlocking members to the top edge of the second closure profile along a portion of the length of the second closure profile starting from the first side, (ii) a second portion of the lip extending a substantially constant distance H3 from the interlocking members to the top edge of the second closure profile along a portion of the length of the second closure profile starting from the second side, and (iii) a third portion of the lip being provided between the first portion of the lip and the second portion of the lip, with the third portion extending a substantially constant distance H4 from the interlocking members to the top edge of the second closure profile, wherein the distance H4 is greater than each of the distances H1, H2, and H3, and wherein the first portion of the lip of the second closure profile smoothly transitions into the third portion of the lip of the second closure profile, and the third portion of the lip of the second closure profile smoothly transitions into the second portion of the lip of the second closure profile, and wherein the plurality of dimples provided on the first closure profile and the plurality of dimples provided on the second closure profile provide at least one of a visual cue and a tactile feedback to a user when interlocking the first interlocking member of the first closure profile with the first interlocking member of the second closure profile and the second interlocking member of the first closure profile with the second interlocking member of the second closure profile. 2. The bag according to claim 1 , wherein the first closure profile includes (i) a first textured area provided adjacent to a portion of the length of the first interlocking member that can be occluded with the first interlocking member of the second closure profile, (ii) a second textured area provided adjacent to a portion of the length of the first interlocking member that can be occluded with the first interlocking member of the second closure profile, and (iii) an untextured area provided adjacent to a portion of the length of the first interlocking member between the first and second textured areas. 3. A storage bag according to claim 2 , wherein the second closure profile includes (i) a first textured area positioned opposite to the first textured area of the first closure profile, and (ii) a second textured area positioned opposite to the second textured area of the first closure profile. 4. A storage bag according to claim 1 , further comprising (i) gripping ridges provided on a surface of the lip of the first closure profile that faces the interior of the bag and (ii) gripping ridges provided on a surface of the lip of the second closure profile that faces the interior of the bag. 5. A storage bag according to claim 4 , further comprising (i) gripping ridges provided on a surface of the lip of the first closure profile that faces the exterior of the bag and (ii) gripping ridges provided on a surface of the lip of the second closure profile that faces the exterior of the bag. 6. A storage bag according to claim 4 , wherein the surface of the lip of the first closure profile that faces the interior of the bag is provided with a texture that is different than that of the rest of the bag, and the surface of lip of the second closure profile that faces the interior of the bag is provided with a texture that is different than that of the rest of the bag. 7. A storage bag according to claim 1 , wherein (i) the second interlocking member of the first closure profile extends substantially parallel to the first interlocking member of the first closure profile, and (ii) the second interlocking member of the second closure profile extends substantially parallel to the first interlocking member of the second closure profile, with the second interlocking member of the second closure profile being capable of occluding with the second interlocking member of the first closure profile. 8. A storage bag according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first and second interlocking members of the first closure profile and at least one of the first and second interlocking members of the second closure profile are provided with a plurality of indentations that produce a sound when the respective interlocking members engage each other. 9. A storage bag according to claim 1 , wherein the lip of the second closure profile includes (i) a fourth portion between the first portion and the third portion, with the distance of the fourth portion from the interlocking members to the top edge of the second closure profile varying from H2 to H4, and (ii) a fifth portion between the second portion and the third portion, with the distance of the fifth portion from the interlocking members to the top edge of the second closure profile varying from H3 to H4. 10. A storage bag according to claim 1 , wherein the distance H2 is about equal to the distance H3. 11. A storage bag according to claim 1
